Reports from the Charleston Daily Mail, Sports Illustrated, and others are tabbing Shane Lyons to succeed Oliver Luck as the Director of Athletics at WVU. Lyons comes to WVU by way of the University of Alabama where he was a Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Operating Officer.

Lyons is a native of Parkersburg, WV and an alumnus of West Virginia University. Prior to his current position in Tuscaloosa, he was the associate commissioner of the ACC for 10 years.

Here's a quick look at his resume (courtesy of the Charleston Daily Mail):

After leaving WVU, he began as the Big South's assistant commissioner from 1988-89 and was involved heavily with compliance and league championships.

He was then with the ACC from 1989-98, rising to be an associate commissioner below only commissioner John Swofford and building relationships with the league's chancellors, presidents, athletic directors and coaches. In his time there, the league grew on three different occasions, experience that might prove useful as the Big 12 copes with its identity crisis as a 10-team league without a title game to crown a football champion.

Lyons then banked three years in the Big 12, which WVU joined in 2012, as the associate athletic director for compliance from 1998-2001. He also took on roles overseeing the strength and conditioning staff, nutritional staff and sports medicine staff.

Welcome home, Shane!
