This morning it was announced that West Virginia will open up the 2018 football season versus the Tennessee Volunteers. The season opening game is reported to take place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Mountaineers and the Volunteers have never faced each other in football. However, West Virginia has played 33 games versus Southeastern Conference opponents recording 14 wins, 18 losses and one tie. The first time West Virginia faced an SEC team was in 1939 and the last time was in 2011. The Mountaineers start the 2014 season versus the Alabama Crimson Tide in Atlanta.

The West Virginia Mountaineers versus Tennessee Volunteers game in 2018 will mark the fifth neutral site game in seven years for the Mountaineers.
