A last second three point attempt clangs off the rim and WVU holds off a pesky Marshall team 69-66 in the Charleston Civic Center Arena on Sunday night.
It was a typical WVU/Marshall game in the CCC with WVU shooting badly and Marshall playing above their heads. Marshall came into the game shooting 40% for the season and shot 50% for the game. Not that WVU has been shooting the lights out lately, but they continued their shooting struggles (especially in Charleston) by only shooting 38.6% for the night.
A run in the second half had Marshall up by 8 points just before the midpoint. WVU was able to clamp down the defense and chip away at the lead, ultimately grabbing the lead at 52-51 on a Gary Browne free throw just under the six minute mark. Marshall tied it twice again after that but free throws by Jonathan Holton and Juwan Staten sandwiched around a Justin Edmonds three pointer completed the scoring for the day.
Juwan Staten led five Mountaineers scoring in double figures with 15.
WVU returns to action next Saturday when they face the Wolfpack of N.C. State in the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden.
