West Virginia Mountaineers Football Recruiting: What You May Have Missed (11/26/14)

A new commitment sends the Mountaineers into Turkey Day happy.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

There has really been only one notable update with recruiting in the past days but it was a solid one.  Larry Jefferson flipped his commitment from ISU over to the good guys after being a heavy WVU lean early in October.  He went on an official to ISU and they snatched him up, but the writing was on the wall for a flip, especially after teammate Xavier Pegues' commitment.  Larry is a 6'5" 235 lbs. JUCO defensive end who should bring some immediate depth to the squad and chose the Mountaineers over some major Big 12, SEC, and ACC offers.  Larry should help bring in more of a pass-rushing presence with him and it wouldn't surprise me to see him in the two-deep early on.  In fact, Pegues and Jefferson will likely be seeing a lot of action both with the coinciding graduations of Riddick and Hyman, players they both draw similarities too.

There could be some more recruiting along the defensive line but Jefferson's addition may wrap it up and if so the Mountaineers should feel good about where they stand.  Sure, a Tim Settle-type of commitment would be great, but 5 solid defensive line prospects in a class is still a great haul for WVU.  Still though, one can never have too much beef in the trenches.  More likely however is the addition of some skill players on the back-end or at wide-receiver.  A JUCO corner is flitting heavily around on the radar right now and a few more offers have extended out to fast speedy wide-outs in recent days.  That could just be back-up plans for Irvin and Cronkrite, but hopefully we won't need them.

Things are still moving slowly but no one has decommitted or reconsidered, showing what a great job the staff has been doing of keeping this class together.  The Larry Jefferson commitment was a great steal as well to keep the recruiting momentum rolling heading into December, not to mention it was a nice little jab at ISU right before we play them.  Things are going to starting picking up as we get closer and closer to February, but right now it is looking like the Mountaineers are on track to finish this class with a bang.
