During an early portion of the Dana Holgorsen Show, Coach Holgorsen revealed that Ford Childress has earned the starting job (for now) for the Mountaineers.

After inconsistent play from mostly Paul Millard and two uninspiring series from Clint Trickett during the first two games, Coach Holgorsen and Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Shannon Dawson opened up the quarterback competition once again this week. Apparently they saw enough improvement in practice this week to give the starting nod to the redshirt freshman Ford Childress.
The first two games of the season marked an uninspiring offensive output, especially in the passing game, garnering only 24 points. Holgorsen's offense has been known to put up that many points on a regular basis IN SINGLE QUARTERS. The scoring output led Holgorsen to label the numbers as "embarassing" and made note that shakeups could and would occur throughout the lineup. This was a big shakeup, to say the least, as many still thought that Trickett would have the upper hand (of the two other options) given his game experience.
Still, there's no time like the present and Holgorsen has chosen his quarterback. He also made note to say that there won't be a rotation, the job is Childress's, at least for this week
