Oklahoma State Runs Away From WVU, 73-57

After a close first half, the Pokes run away from the Eers for a 16 point win in Morgantown.

USA TODAY Sports

Despite forcing freshman phenom Marcus Smart into three stupid fouls in the first three and a half minutes, the Mountaineers could not overcome Oklahoma State at home this afternoon.

With Smart on the bench for the remainder of the first half, WVU managed to run out to a seven point lead that was whittled away and turned into a seven point deficit during the first half. Ugly basketball was on tap for most of the first half, but a quick four point burst by the Mountaineers cut the lead to a single basket on a rebound flush by Aaric Murray at the halftime buzzer.

Marcus Smart returned in the second half and took over the game, scoring all 14 of his points in the second stanza. Five Cowboys ended the game with double figure scoring. The only Mountaineers to score in double figures were Murray and Matt Humphrey. This won't surprise anyone who has watched this team all season, but WVU's shooting percentage was an abysmal 30.2% overall with a 19% mark behind the arc.

The Mountaineers return to action on Wednesday against Baylor in Morgantown.
