WVU To Take On Syracuse In Pinstripe Bowl According To Multiple Sources

WVU has chance to bring home two trophies from their bowl game.

Chris McGrath

The West Virginia Mountaineers will be taking on an old familiar foe as it's slowly being confirmed that the Pinstripe Bowl in the Bronx, New York, against the Syracuse Orange on December 29 will WVU's bowl destination. Many fans had held out hope for a trip to sunny, warm San Diego for the Holiday bowl against a Pac-12 opponent. Others were hoping for a renewal of the Backyard Brawl in the Bronx, but the Orange got the bid over Pitt.

It will be interesting to see how many WVU fans make the weekend trip to NYC. Orange fans are likely to have no problems selling their lot, due to the proximity. But, based on my Twitter feed, our fans are less than enthusiastic about the matchup. One bonus of being in the Big 12 is that WVU will not be on the hook for any unsold tickets, as the conference picks up the tab for those (don't read that as an excuse for fans not to go). One added bonus will be that WVU will have the chance to reclaim the Schwartzwalder trophy from the Orange.
