In today's semifinals, West Virginia raced out to an early lead, only to have it worn down and eliminated by a plethora of pinatas whistles. Davidson was able to take advantage of the early disparate foul situation and was able to work itself up to a 11 point lead in the second half. Aaric Murray sat a good bit of the second half with 4 fouls before fouling out fairly early. The whistles did seem more even handed during the second half, though. WVU fought back and got it within 1 around under the 1 minute mark, only to give up an immediate 3.
Terry Henderson hit a late three to cut the lead to one again with just over 13 seconds remaining, setting up a foul situation, in which Davidson was able to convert for the three point lead. Juwan Staten's last second three point attempt bounced off the rim for a 63-60 loss. Foul trouble and missed free throws hurt the Mountaineers all afternoon, shooting under 50% from the charity stripe. WVU returns to action Sunday to face the loser of Oklahoma/Gonzaga in a third place consolation game.
