Fred Wyant led the Mountaineer offense from 1952 - 1955, earning the starting job as a freshman. A three time Academic All American, Wyant threw for 2663 yards and 21 touchdowns in an era when passing wasn't exactly the fancy. He also managed 763 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. Wyant led the Mountaineers to a 30-4 record as a starter and the 1954 Peach Bowl.
