The Shotgun/Throwdown: Tuesday (4/19/11) Edition

Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions. We're being brought to you today by Old Leghumper Robust Porter.

Ten practice sessions are in the books, with the next practice scheduled for tomorrow. The two coordinators were the subject of interview sessions after practice yesterday and while both seem pleased, they both know and admit its still very early to draw conclusions for the fall, especially with a few key team members out with injuries. But, you don't have to take it from me, let's see what the coaches themselves had to say...

Big shots in town - Charleston Gazette
"It's been really neat to see the tempo. It's a little bit faster. We're getting the ball to a lot of people in great spots. We're hitting deep balls, we're hitting crossing routes and swing passes out of the backfield.'' - HCBS

Defense has long way to go, Casteel says - Charleston Gazette
"There isn't really one guy who has stood out. We're trying to do things as a group and we're still mixing and matching guys,'' Casteel said. "We're starting to see them do some things as a group, which is encouraging, but we still have a long way to go. I don't know that anyone has been a great surprise to us yet. We still have a lot of guys out there learning to compete every day.''

Holgorsen taking time at evaluation - Charleston Gazette
"But the better we get at getting backwards and finding a guy that can pass-set and stop an end or sort out a blitz and all that kind of stuff, the more we'll do that. And if we can't do it we won't do it. We know what we want to do, but it's a process to evaluate what our guys can and can't do, which is going to take a lot longer than 10 practices. It won't be until two or three weeks [before the opener] before we settle in on what we can do right.''

Holgorsen strives for simplicity - Times West Virginian
"The only difference," McCartney said, "is in high school there were a lot more plays."

HERTZEL COLUMN - Body language, not potty language - Times West Virginian
"You want guys with bounce, that have energy, that line up quickly, are anxious and alert and are ready to go out there and make a play." Holgorsen wants guys with energy. Why Bob had to bring the "potty language" into this, I don't understand.
