After allowing the Horned Frogs to shoot 50% in the first half, the Mountaineers rolled past Texas Christian in the second half.
At the half, West Virginia lead Texas Christian 39-36. If it weren't for the walk-on and West Virginia native, Chase Connor going three for three from beyond the arc, the Horned Frogs may have lead the Mountaineers at the half.
Connor, who recorded his first nine career points in a Mountaineers uniform versus Texas Christian today had only previously played 25 minutes this season.
"Being from West Virginia it means a lot to come in and contribute," said Connor
"We all know that Chase can shoot the ball. We have seen him shoot the ball everyday in practice, he just really hasn't had his opportunity to shoot in the game as much," said Staten.
West Virginia (16-13, 8-8) used a 15-0 run and an 11-0 run and 42 second half points to blowout the Horned Frogs 81-59. Eron Harris lead West Virginia with 18 points and for the first time in 13 games, Devin Williams recorded 10 points. Williams also added 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and his first since January 11th against Oklahoma State.
"The difference in our team was Devin played in the second half. He came out and rebounded the ball, played like a man, scored in close. It makes all the difference in the world," said Huggins.
Texas Christian (9-19, 0-16) shot 50% in the first half while West Virginia shot 33%. In the second half, the Mountaineers shot 53% and outscored the Horned Frogs 42-23 while holding Texas Christian to 30% shooting.
"We just played with some more urgency. We had to play with more urgency and stop thinking about what we were doing right or wrong, we had to play harder," said Harris about West Virginia's changes at halftime.
Today's family day crowd was the third largest home crowd of the season (11,358) behind the crowds that saw the Mountaineers take on Oklahoma State (January 11th) and last Saturday's game versus Baylor.
West Virginia will head to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma Sooners this Wednesday night. Tip off is set for 9pm
