PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) – West Virginia made an impact in the local recruiting base when they got a commitment from Aliquippa defensive back Dravon Henry, who many were hoping would go to Pitt. The Mountaineers didn’t stop there though as they put together the 38th ranked recruiting class in the country.
According to Rivals, West Virginia also beefed up their quarterback position by bringing in four-star recruit William Crest from Maryland and three-star recruit Skyler Howard out of California.
West Virginia is also getting a head start on next year as six of their commitments have already enrolled so they can begin working out and getting ready.
Head Coach Dana Holgorsen joined Starkey and Mueller to talk about his teams recruiting class including how he lured Dravon Henry away from Pitt.
"There’s a couple of factors for it. Our philosophy really hasn’t changed here over the last several years. A lot of good players in the surrounding states and we just got something to sell that a lot of other teams on this part of the country don’t have to sell which is the Big 12."
Holgorsen also updated us on the progress of former Pitt Running Back Rushel Shell who transferred to West Virginia last year.
"He’s doing great. He did a great job last semester. He came in, did a great job for us on scout team, didn’t have any issues whatsoever," Holgorsen told us. "He worked hard in the wait room, he got stronger, he got leaner, he got quicker, came back was in the right shape, the right frame of mind."
Holgorsen went on to break down the rest of his recruiting class and what areas he thinks his team will improve upon from last year.
