2013 NFL Draft Profile: J.D. Woods, Wide Receiver, West Virginia Mountaineers

Justin K. Aller

With his size and hands, J.D. Woods is hoping a team will take a chance on him in the late rounds.

2012 stats: 61 receptions, 637 yards, 4 touchdowns

In an offense that was dominated by the exploits of receivers Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey, J.D. Woods provided a sure handed third option for Geno Smith this past season.

Woods spent his first year under Coach Holgorsen's spread system struggling a bit to find his way, but with a re-dedicated work ethic, became the team's third leading receiver in his senior season for the Mountaineers.

He has a large prototypical frame that seems perfectly suited for NFL offenses and developed into one of the surest handed receivers for the Mountaineers in his senior season. In a game that was decided by who was going to have the ball last, Woods made this grab to convert a third down late in the game, allowing WVU to run the clock:

Woods may not have the blazing speed of some receivers, but he makes up for that with his route running and talent for making the difficult grabs. During a time when the whole team was struggling, Woods did have a couple of inexplicable drops that were completely uncharacteristic.

With his measurables at 6'1" and 189 lbs, Woods has the body and hands of an NFL receiver. Now it's up to a team to take a chance on him in the late rounds.
