WVU Football Recruiting Update: January 21, 2013

Stay connected for news and updates

US PRESSWIRE

Recruiting is now into its final contact period before the February 6 National Letter of Intent Day kicks off the start of the official signing period, so news of visits, commits, flips, and all things recruiting is starting to pick up.

I'm not sure there is enough news to do a full post at this point, but we got wind of a few snippets of information from this weekend's recruiting world that are probably worth passing along:

  • WR Shelton Gibson, who gave his verbal to the Mountaineers last week, took an official visit to Tennessee. Evidently he liked it well enough, but remains committed to WVU.
  • A handful of already-committed prospects made it onto campus for their official visits. Word is that everything went smoothly and the Mounties firmed up these verbals.
  • There is a rumor---though it hasn't been officially announced by the university, you can probably check the student directory for confirmation---that JUCO S Terrell Pinson missed on qualifying and never officially enrolled at WVU. His vacancy leaves room for another scholarship DB, possibly S Jeremy Tyler who is rumored to have visited Morgantown over the weekend.
  • Our defensive line recruiting took a hit over the weekend as well, as targets Ufomba Kamalu verballed to Miami and Marcus Hardison pledged to Arizona State. At this point, options along the line are dwindling and you have to wonder whether at some point Holgorsen and Slaughter decide it's not worth the scholarship to just have a body in the class if they don't have a chance to contribute. That being said, DE Malik Brown posted on his twitter account that WVU extended an offer to him, so not all hope is lost.

Stay tuned throughout the week for more updates as we catch wind of them.
