Nick Florence will lead the Baylor Bears against Geno Smith and the West Virginia Mountaineers in the 2012 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award® Marquee Match-up for week five, as chosen by fans on Facebook.
Throughout the season, the Davey O’Brien will highlight the fan-selected, best weekly quarterback match-up as the race for the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award continues. Quarterbacks from all 124 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision schools are eligible for the award until the field is narrowed to 16 semifinalists on Monday, Oct. 22.

Two of the top scoring offenses in the nation will face-off this weekend when Nick Florence and the Bears (51.33 points per game) travel to Morgantown, W.Va to take on Geno Smith and the Mountaineers (47.33 points per game). Smith ranks first in the Big 12 and second nationally with 357.33 passing yards per game and a quarterback rating of 191.23 while connecting for 12 touchdowns in his first three games.
Florence, Baylor’s replacement for 2011 Davey O’Brien Winner Robert Griffin III, has excelled this year. The Garland, Texas native leads the nation with 387.67 yards per game. While Baylor will look to move up in the standings with a win this weekend, West Virginia will try to make a statement in their Big 12 debut.
