Future of the Brawl?

Iowa State fan here.

Do you guys think the Backyard Brawl will continue as a non-conference game in the future? I really hope it does, and see no reason not to as you both left the Big East for greener pastures. As some of you might know, our fiercest rivalry is outside the Big 12, with Iowa. We play every year, almost always in week 2 (occasionally week 3). We all really enjoy it, and guarantees a meaningful non-conference game every year. I would have to think you guys would look into doing the same with the Brawl. College football is about hatred for your uppity shit head neighbor, and it would be a shame to see such a hate-filled affair fall by the wayside for no reason. I think it would be a great addition to the Big 12's annual non-con slate, alongside the Cy-Hawk. Thoughts? (and welcome aboard)

Brawl

I believe most WVU fans would love to see the brawl continue, in football as well as basketball. I am not so sure that either school’s athletic department feels the same way. I believe that Pitt considers themselves too good for WVU, and would much rather rekindle their rivalry with Penn State if they had to choose. Realistically, only WVU and Penn State can sell out Heinz Field, so they need one of them on the schedule on a consistent basis. From WVU’s perspective, I think the school wishes to continue the Maryland rivalry, possibly because it is more important for recruiting purposes than playing 90 minutes away in Pittsburgh. This would leave WVU with only 2 open non-conference dates, one of which will always be a buy-a-win home game vs a FCS opponent. Once Marshall is off the schedule after the 2012 season, I believe WVU would like to have flexibility to schedule home and home series against different teams, both for recruiting and national recognition purposes. So I don’t believe we’ll ever see the Backyard Brawl resume on an annual basis, unless of course future conference realignment brings the two schools back to the same conference. At least we know, as far as football is concerned (and hopefully basketball too, after tonight), that we got the last laugh for this round. It’s funny how you can miss someone / something you dislike so much, isn’t it?

It's like that South Park

where Kyle moves to San Francisco, and Cartman realizes how much life sucks w/out an arch rival.

I predict this will be what happends to those sheep fuckers in College Station.

You’re quite right, the loss of the Texas rivalry will be significantly worse for them (more than all of the other rivalries being sacrificed for expansion’s sake, I’d argue), as they’ve designed something like 50% of their school lore and self image all about beating Texas- without that, they’re not really anything.

50%?

I’d say double that number

That's too bad though

I was hoping to see that game played instead of Maryland in the non-conference.

As a fan of college football in general, the Brawl was one of those games outside the Big 12 I always looked forward. I would guess there are plenty others who feel this way. I suppose only time can tell whyat will come of it.

I'm 98.9% sure we'll see the Brawl come back....

2012 was a tough go for us and Pitt getting schedules together. Our AD knows the importance of this game. He was our starting quarterback when I attended WVU in the early 80s.

The only thing that makes me 1.1% unsure about the deal happening is that Pitt AD, Steve Pederson, is a real dick-head.
