Possible 2012 WVU Football Schedule
Many of us have seen several rumors and pre-mature postings of schedules like the one Country Roads found on the Texas site. Based on several of these that we've found, here is our best guess for what the 2012 Mountaineer Football schedule will/could look like:
| Date | Opponent |
| Sept 1 | Marshall |
| Sept 15 | JMU @ Fed Ex |
| Sept 22 | Maryland |
| Sept 29 | Oklahoma |
| Oct 6 | Kansas St |
| Oct 13 | @ Iowa St |
| Oct 20 | @ Oklahoma St |
| Oct 27 | TCU |
| Nov 3 | Baylor |
| Nov 10 | @ Texas |
| Nov 17 | @ Texas Tech |
| Nov 24 | Kansas |
Don't take this as gospel by any means. According to a report by the NewsOK, there are EIGHT different scheduling scenarios still being considered. But for now, this is looking VERY nice and much better than the schedules of the last 6-7 years (not considering the SEC visitors we've had visit). If this holds true, that September date with the Sooners could possibly set up another ESPN Gameday visit and an electric atmosphere to rival the LSU game of this past season. That date with TCU looks awful attractive too. Notice the lack of weeknight games? This is one thing that I still haven't decided if it's a good thing or not.

Texas Tech has posted their version of the schedule which has WVU @ TT on October 27
Not that I want to go to Lubbock, mind. Been there, don’t want to go again.
West Virginia fans hate everybody. They remember every snub and joke and bit of snark. And they never forgive, and they never, ever forget. In other words, they're a lot like West Virginians in general.

I think it’s unlikely we play 11 straight games without a bye week and end the season Nov. 24, when the Big 12 doesn’t have a championship game.
i’ve thought alot about this… and my thinking has been that the conference would be smart in setting up traveling pairings, and you play home/away with those.
ISU/WVU
Texas Tech/Texas
Baylor/TCU
OSU/OU
KU/K-State
So, using the scenario and assuming we play at Texas and host OU, we’d play at TTU and at OK-St. We’d host KU and visit K-State (or vice-versa), and same with Baylor/TCU.
Does any of this make sense?
derp...
we play at Texas and host OU, we’d play at host TTU and at OK-St
I can't think of anything worse than a bye week
after the 1st week of the season. I personally feel that ADOL will likely suggest having a Big XII schedule extend into December (during conference championship week) but if memory serves me correct the Big XII did that this past season anyway.
Also, Texas Tech’s schedule has leaked like the first poster stated.
8 home games!!! Who are we, Ohio State :)?
like I said
this is a best guess, and by no means are any of the leaked schedules set in stone as yet
and yeah, we noticed the 8 “home” games as well
If I had my druthers, I'druther switch Maryland for Pitt....
I guess they’re still a BE team for 2012.

*shrugs*
I rather like the Maryland rivalry. Of course I’m biased because I now live 20 minutes from College Park and some of my friends are Terp Alumni, but I digress… I don’t prefer it OVER the Pitt game, but if we alternate Maryland and Pitt I wouldn’t mind.

Big 12 Looking Good
I’m liking this new-look Big XII. I’ve always been a fan of WVU football, glad I get to see them more. If we can just get ISU and KU to up their game, this will be the best conference. Hook em!
Losing the PITT game is a travesty. Every fan of PITT and WVU should be encouraging the AD’s to schedule this game ANNUALLY in football and b-ball. I can only imagine what Jack Fleming is thinking from above.
I understand it may be required due to logistics, initially, but in the long run these 2 schools are 69 miles from each other and have one of the best rivalries in all of sports. It doesn’t make sense how so many WVU and PITT fans think that it’s no big deal if this game is played or not. These rivalries enhance BOTH universities.
There were years (very recent ones in fact) when the VPI game was more important than PITT but Maryland? Never. Playing them to me is like playing Virginia, Wake Forest, NC State or Georgia Tech….Meh. Programs with zero football identity.
The PITT/WVU rivalry isn’t one that benefits one school moreso than the other. It benefits both equally.
something missing
i like the way the maybe schedule looks, but, boy, not having pitt at the end of the year seems kind of like having a limb removed.
Really glad it’s you guys on board instead of Louisville. If I make it to Morgantown for the TCU game is there anywhere you’d recommend to eat/drink that won’t spit in my food for wearing purple?

Check back a little closer to the game for a full review, but:
Kegler’s
Crocketts
Mario’s Fish Bowl
Would be the 3 places I recommend to visitors as the best local flavor. Of course, it depends on the kind of atmosphere you’re looking for, too.
