Welcome
Glad to see that you guys will be joining us for the 2012 season. WVU will be an upgrade from the departing schools by far. Collectively this conference is going to get very competitive. Welcome and I’ll stop by again as the season gets closer!

Rumor has it,
That since this issue is over with, the B12 may be closer to getting back to 12 teams and UL could be seeing an invite sooner rather than later. I’ll admit, I was a fan of the Big East before all this realignment, but I’m ready to bolt now too. The WVU/UL rivalry is one my favorites and I’d hate to see it be a thing of the past.
I must admit
Over the last couple of years I have really begun to dislike you guys. The rivalry is definitely growing and it would get pretty competitive if you and Cincy get to the Big 12 too. Would love to see it.
Yeah, I'm sure their is a bad taste in the mouth of most of the fan base
that a bunch of UL “kids” came in to Morgantown and got a win last year. I’m sure you guys would probably like to avenge that one. There has been some epic battles in basketball that would be a shame to not have anymore.
Really, tons of good WVU-UL games in both sports.

Papa John’s in 2010.
Morgantown in 2011.
All close games. Plus 2008 and 2009 weren’t exactly blowout. And I won’t even try to start naming the basketball games.

Ughhhhhhh
CINCINNATI NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
That’s a commuter school. I would barely show excitement for Louisville (but at least it would be relatively close game) but no way do I want Cincinnati in our conference.
They are perfect for the Big East. They are not a big time program and I believe Nippert Stadium is one of the smaller venues in the Big East, let alone the Big 12…..Louisville barely makes the cut in my opinion and if someone else comes along then UL shouldn’t be invited. Our athletic director I’m sure is not very fond of Louisville (pronounced “Louey-ville”) and his word holds as much clout as any AD given his pedigree.
I'm not going to pretend for a second that UL has the tradition in football that WVU does,
but we do have a lot to offer the Big 12. Charlie Strong and company have been on a tear in the recruiting department and we seem to be on the rise in football. Basketball is a no brainer that we’d be hanging out at the top of the standings like we tend to do at the end of the big east seasons. Across the board in all other sports we are competitive and our facilities are top notch. The only argument I have for Cincinnati is they do have the luxury of being able to host games @ Paul Brown stadium which is not too shabby.
Hosting small college programs in NFL stadiums is a SERIOUS red flag for any conference. Look at Pitt. That program is a disaster and it makes Heinz Field (a place I frequent on Sundays) look like the Big House. Cincinnati’s program isn’t near the program of Pitt IMO. Therefore, hosting at PBS is a negative in my book.
As for basketball, it just doesn’t matter…unless you’re the Big East. The SEC is historically awful in b-ball with only UK and Florida big time programs.
I’ll give you Charlie Strong. I think he’ll do a fine job. Louisville just doesn’t cut it for me. I think most Mountaineer fans would agree with me that there wasn’t ONE conference game that really got the fires stoked in Morgantown (not literally..haha). That’s why the LSU game was so epic in terms of fan excitement, anticipation, etc.
Now we get 2-3 home games every season that are exciting (Texas, OSU and OU at minimum).
All good points on football
But in basketball, it doesn’t matter if we are in the BE, B12, or some liberty league, basketball will always rule in this town. We have tradition, championships, best facility, etc. That’s why we are all waiting on our invite to the B12 cause no matter what, we’ll always be relevant in basketball. We need a football conference to help elevate us and I’m confident that when we get there, we’ll compete. We won’t be like our rival down the road and be a bottom dweller in the SEC cause we are a “basketball school.” Good luck tomorrow on the hardwood, and enjoy the new ride that is the B12, but don’t forget about the ‘ville, we’re not far behind you.
I think a lot of fans would disagree with you.
You don’t think the triple overtime game vs Louisville, where Slaton and White really emerged on the scene didn’t get the fires stoked in Morgantown? If that’s REALLY what you think then I think your transformation into Trolly McTrollerson is complete, my friend. That, along with the triple overtime game vs Ray Rice and Rutgers are 2 of the best and closest games I’ve been to.

I’m not talking about the excitement of the actual game. I was referring to the anticipation of the game. I’ll give you that there have been specific years when both teams could be ranked but historically those programs YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT don’t get WVU fans fired up.
In other words Louisville, Rutgers or whoever else never replaced Virginia Tech or Pitt (when they were relevant). It didn’t matter the year it was always a big game because the program had achieved higher status than 1-2 year success.
Schedule slowly leaking?
Okay, Orangeblood leaked the Texas schedule with us supposedly going to Austin on Nov 10th. Rumors are heavy of Oklahoma coming in Sept 29th.
Now this….
