National Signing Day: TE/OL Will Johnson Officially A West Virginia Mountaineer
Will Johnson, a 6'7 245 lbs tight end/offensive lineman from Osseo (Minnesota) Senior High School, has committed to the West Virginia University Mountaineers, announcing the news and faxing in his National Letter of Intent on National Signing Day 2012. Johnson, a 3-star prospect and the No. 38 ranked tight end by Scout.com, chose the Mountaineers over offers from Auburn, Iowa, Iowa State, and Ole Miss, among others.
Johnson is an interesting prospect. He's clearly big enough to play offensive line if he can add the weight, but he's also fast, athletic, and has good enough hands to play receiver. In most systems, he's probably a true tight end. In Dana Holgorsen's system, where tight ends don't exist...your guess is as good as mine as to where he's going to play. If you watch his film, though, you can tell he's a great athlete. And I love that Holgy is committed to finding great athletes, regardless of position.
Welcome home, Will!

I know Holgorsen doesn't use TE's like you said
but I wouldn’t mind or be surprised if we add a wrinkle and use this kid like the Patriots use Rob Gronkowski! I think it would be just another way someone would have to defend us but then again he may just end up being on the OL.

I tend to agree with you.
I would love to see Holgorsen use this kid to his full potential as a pass catcher.

Agreed
He’s a great addition regardless of how we use him, though. He’s a big guy. Welcome home, Will!
