Foul trouble and missed free throws doom the Mountaineers against Davidson.
In today's semifinals, West Virginia raced out to an early lead, only to have it worn down and eliminated by a plethora of
pinatas whistles. Davidson was able to take advantage of the early disparate foul situation and was able to work itself up to a 11 point lead in the second half. Aaric Murray sat a good bit of the second half with 4 fouls before fouling out fairly early. The whistles did seem more even handed during the second half, though. WVU fought back and got it within 1 around under the 1 minute mark, only to give up an immediate 3.
Terry Henderson hit a late three to cut the lead to one again with just over 13 seconds remaining, setting up a foul situation, in which Davidson was able to convert for the three point lead. Juwan Staten's last second three point attempt bounced off the rim for a 63-60 loss. Foul trouble and missed free throws hurt the Mountaineers all afternoon, shooting under 50% from the charity stripe. WVU returns to action Sunday to face the loser of Oklahoma/Gonzaga in a third place consolation game.
