CASTEEL IS GONE

According to AZ's website, Casteel took the AZ jo http://www.goazwildcats.com/content/casteel-hired-defensive-coordinator-159/. Does anyone know why he would leave WVU for AZ? Is it just for RR or does he not get along w/ Holgs? Seems odd to leave us now with the future looking so bright. Could it be a money thing? I'd be really surprised if AZ is offering more money than us. Can anybody shed some light on this please?!?!

well

this was published shortly after the game, but other outlets that I’ve read is that it isn’t necessarily a done deal yet, but WVU would have a hard time matching an offer in a bidding war.

This article is from a blog (not necessarily doubting it, but it’s far from official).

No need

to get bent out of shape until you hear it from a University official. Even if he leaves we will be fine.

Sorry to hear that but good-bye then and don't forget...

To say “go suck one” to old Rod.

Ok. If he is leaving which sounds like it then this is an opportunity for us to expand our defensive program and continue improve.
I don’t have much sympathy for anyone who could leave us to go work for rod.

If he leaves

I think it’s just so that he can continue to prove himself elsewhere. He would probably like to be a head coach at some point. His chance at a HC gig increases with success out west. We should be happy that he was one of the few that stayed behind when he did, because it at least gave us some stability when the program needed it. I say good luck to Casteel wherever he is coaching!

Im not too concerned

And I would wish him the best if if does go. I’m just curious (assuming it’s true) why he would be leaving. I thought he was one of the higher paid DC’s in football, that’s why I’d be surprised if he was leaving for monetary reasons. The whole thing is just curious. I can’t wrap my head around him going to AZ w/ RR when he stayed with WVU instead of following RR to UM. I just don’t believe that AZ is offering more $ to him than UM was. Perplexing.

It's Not About Money

It is all about getting a head coaching position for Casteel. He was told by other schools that the perception of him was that he would never leave West Virginia for another job. This will be a lateral move but it will break the ice for him to a head coaching gig some where else. I actually was hoping to get a chance at the head coaching job at WVU and now realizes that opportunity is likely to never come so if he wants a chance at a head coaching job this what he has to do. Only problem is the grass isn’t always greener and he could be out of job in 2 to 3 years if this is true. I for one can’t believe some blogger with the handle the “Dude”.

If this winds up being true I wish Casteel nothing but the best and know deep down inside that he will “Always Be A Mountaineer”.

I can’t same the same thing for the guy he could be going to work for.

Then Why Not Wait

For the head coaching job rather than leaving for AZ, it will come. Something isn’t adding up.

I disagree

because even if Holgorsen moves on in a few years, I honestly can’t see Oliver Luck handing the job to Casteel, no matter how loyal he is.

i hope he stays, but if he goes, I wish him nothing but the best. He will always be a true Mountaineer.

I like Casteel and hope he doesn't leave

But if he does I wish him the best. This can be an opportunity to try to retool our defense to address some of the weaknesses the 3-3-5 has.

the 3-3-5

needs a stud DT. thats it. thats why last season with neild clogging the middle the defense was money..

short memory much?
