Game Thread: West Virginia Mountaineers @ Syracuse Orange
West Virginia Mountaineers at Syracuse Orange, Jan 28, 2012 1:00 PM EST
This afternoon, Huggs and the men continue their Empire State road trip with a visit to the Carrier Dome to take on the Syracuse Orange. Oh, the Syracuse Orange...that school in upstate New York that has had the Mountianeers' number of late on both the gridiron and for an extended time on the hardcourt. The last time either of WVU teams came away with a victory against the Orange was October 2009 on the football field. In fact, since WVU joined the Big East, the Mountaineers have only beaten them 5 times in basketball. Now today, against one of the best teams in the nation today, the Mountaineers will try to end this schneid against the Orange.
Televised coverage begins at 1 pm EST on ESPNU and ESPN3 (<-direct link). So, sit back, relax, grab yourself your favorite beverage or 11 and join in the running commentary, random observations, snark, wit, hopes, fears and jeers in the comments section. Let's end this streak.
And, as always...

2010 football game doesn’t count. WVU didn’t have a head football coach.

thanks for posting the direct link to ESPN3
Seems I’m always screwing around to find it. The internets confuse me sometimes without the right directions.

Seriously
If we get down below 10 on the shot clock, he’ll at least get a good shot off. We need to control the tempo of this game to win. So I like running the clock. But we can’t do that, not score, and then let them dunk and rile the crowd up.
Time for Turk
to use some road grading screens. Something to stop that. At least get their guards heads on a swivel and not focused exclusively on stealing the ball.
That is a miserable call

Overall not terrible
only down 4 after not playing our best offensive half. I like controlling the tempo, we just need to get good looks during the last ten seconds.
Not too shabby
Led most of the first half. Playing good D and rebounding fine. On the offensive side we’re controlling it well, but have had at least two shot clock violations. If we can turn those long possessions into points, we have a decent shot.

the only bad part abou the first half
is what you just saw. (kicks wall/pulls out hair/wait I don’t have any hair/sorry dude sitting beside me)
hell yeah
as soon as I type that, another flush. At some point someone’s got to chest bump these guys while their trying to dunk. Not to hurt anyone. Just don’t let them have that.

Its
incredible to see how much of a difference truck makes for this team when he hits a couple shots.
Cuse has hit
nothing but easy ones and threes. Let’s stop guarding everything else. they’ve had some open looks on mid-range jumpers.
KJ took a nice forearm
on that last loose ball fast break.
That zone is so frantic looking.
Rutledge made a few nice passes from the middle of it though.

Why doesn't Rutledge play more??
He’s athletic and aggressive—be nice to see him on the floor more

Agreed
he brings some much needed tenacity at times

I didn't notice who
came in and went out for SU, but it could be a matchup thing. But I agree wholeheartedly with you on that.

but Peyton is a gem
on the Papa John’s one…even though I hate their pizza and their Louisville sponsoring asses
The first time
I saw it, I missed everything in the commercial after that line because I couldn’t stop laughing.

How may times are they going to show Fab Melo on the bench
Shouldn’t he be studying?

WOW
big miss by the refs, they must think they’re Big East football refs in the dome
by medstudent29 on Jan 28, 2012 3:03 PM EST up reply actions
Wow
I didn’t even mind the shot by Truck because I thought offensive rebound was our best show at it. But just wow.
We were hosed
Can’t wait for the explanation on that goal-tending call

Sigh
That one would have been a good win…

Terrible call
How did we end up with the ball anyway though? Out of bounds?
I'm so sorry guys
You had them and got fucked by the refs.
I wish I could say the refs in the Big 12 are better but so far today I’m not impressed.

man
getting robbed on a call like that is worse than getting blown out. I feel like I just got punched.

that was just awful. Why can they review some shots but not others. That was totally a goal tending call and as the color guy stated “inexcusable at this stage of the game”. So the ref blew the call? Have a system where that is overturned….such bullshit.
Instead, the only corrective measure will be “sorry about that”
Yep
Pretty much what happened with the Toledo game, right?
“Whoopsie, sorry guys. There was this cute co-ed in the stands and she was winking at me… what half is it again?”

Very good effort after getting pounded by St. Johns
Not an easy place to play-youngsters are maturing as the season goes on.

You know...
…Syracuse must have a pretty good relationship with refs…
First Toledo, now us…

I'm more pissed
that the team can look this good (despite the loss) and look as bad as they did this past Wednesday…I know the young team issue, but this is all but February
If that
pisses you off more than that missed call, I’m not sure what to say to you.
Damn
Sorry about such a terrible call. I just wish the entire Big East would fire their refs and dip into the local pee wee basketball ref pool for some higher caliber game calling.

The season
should be over for all three of those assholes. “Unacceptable” in the words of Huggins in his post game.
You guys got jobbed..
Horrendous call.. smdh..
