The Shotgun/Throwdown: St. John's Hangover (1/26/12) Edition

Wtf_20lagunitas_medium

Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions. We're being brought to you today by Lagunitas Wilco Tango Foxtrot Ale (WTF, see?) in response to last night's game.

Well that certainly sucked. WVU's winning streak is at an end. Major regrouping is a must if they are to even be competitive in the Dome this weekend. Full post game fallout is inside. We also have a bit of recruiting news and some big (12) scheduling news. Well, assurances at least. Sorry for the delay...let's get started.

If I am reading correctly between the lines

What is unspoken is speaking loudly. I would bet the Big XII will help WVU, financially, when they leave that sorry excuse for a conference – the Big East!
Neinas cannot say anything because of the litigation and how it could be affected – but he is pissed at the Big East.

that's what

many of us are hoping for

I am also hoping they lean on Big XII teams to help the Big East fill any schedule voids left by WVU...

That would go a long way towards getting us of here next year.

The Big XII has deep pockets

and, for $elfish reasons mostly, it behooves them to get WVU in the fold as quickly as possible. But it still speaks well for the Big XII as compared to the Big East.

Also, down in the mid-southern regions, we are a vindictive bunch. It would not surprise me to see the Big XII go after Louisville and Cincy, just to screw up the Big East! :-)

I say this even though Neinas says the Big XII wants to stay at 10 teams

He HAS to say this for the same reasons of the WVY/Big East litigation pitfalls. Once all of that is settled, watch out!

Louisville would be a fantastic addition

They’re competetive in both sports, travelling partner for WVU, and WVU is going to deserately need a rival in this new conference with all of our tradtional rivals being in the ACC.

this just came out and is pretty interesting
the Big 12 is once again considering expanding the conference. While nothing is imminent, two sources told the paper that the Big 12 adding at least one new member is "very possible."

That new member would likely be Louisville

I posted this over at Louisville, but that is a cynical bunch. :-)

Have fun with that Louisville crew...cynical might be generous.

I have to believe if the B12 is going to take one team, they would take another to make 12. 11 makes zero sense because it prevents round-robin scheduling for the most part.

I agree

But the same article cites the Big 10 went for years with an uneven conference and the SEC has 13 – so I don’t know.

The SEC has 14 now. Although, they would have played with 13 for a year if need be.

You raise a good point about the B1G. I guess my response to that would be “yeah, but it didn’t exactly work out too well for them with the unbalanced scheduling.”
