Game Thread: West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Cincinnati Bearcats
Cincinnati Bearcats at West Virginia Mountaineers, Jan 21, 2012 3:00 PM EST
Now that the Capital Classic is in the books, it's nothing but Big East opponents for the remainder of the regular season for WVU. Today, Mick Cronin brings his Bearcats into the Coliseum to take on his old mentor, Bob Huggins, and the Mountaineers. The Bearcats are sitting alone in second place in the Big East standings and come into this game on quite a roll with only a loss to St. John's marring their record since the melee with Xavier. WVU also comes into this game riding a wave of confidence after dispatching decent Rutgers and Marshall teams in convincing fashion and knowing that they could/should have won the game at UConn. One thing going against the Mountaineers is that they look to still be without the services of Deniz Kilicli. Kevin Noreen filled in nicely last time out and will need to again if WVU wants to continue their climb in the Big East standings.
Televised coverage is being provided by ESPNU at 3 pm EST today for the sold out game. The football recruits should get a nice show with a capacity crowd (assuming the weather doesn't keep too many from attending) on hand to watch the game and honor the 2012 Orange Bowl Champion's at halftime.
So, find yourself a warm, comfortable spot, prop up the feet, grab your favorite beverage or 11 and join us in running commentary, random observations, snark, wit, hopes, fears, cheers and jeers in the comments section.
And, as always...

Ahh have to start on ESPN3
And I still can’t figure out why my little toolbar to full screen doesn’t pop up on the mouseover
Eck
The last 15 seconds or so of regulation in this Nova/St Johns game was really ugly. You couldn’t at least delay tv coverage with a buzzer beater?
Cincy is missing layups
WVU is getting over half it’s baskets on second chances per usual

Good 3 for Brown
His first two were off the mark badly and he looked frustrated in the middle of the next play
Good hustle so far. A couple nice passes and drives.
And Nova won so it’s game on
Eh
Haven’t really liked either of the fouls against KJ
Not a good series of possessions for wv
Much better defense by Cincy and no production from the small lineup without KJ
Getting KJ back in the second half and keeping him out of foul trouble is going to be the key to this game.

Kilicli has made a couple nice passes today
Don’t remember seeing much of that from him
Yeah right after I typed that
He made a high lob over his defender and another from the post to a guard lol.
But as I’m typing this he fed Truck
I had to rewiind that one during the commercial break
Very nice feed.

Why does Keaton Miles start?
Not saying he shouldn’t. He looks like he plays athletic defense. Haven’t really seen him shoot or rebound though.
a lot of people
ask the same thing…not necessarily dissing the kid, but wondering Huggs’ thought process
Yeah I don't mind.
But it seems like once he hits the bench he’s the 4th option to come off it.

Would be better
than the defenseless and error-prone Turkish Abe Lincoln
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?
I don't think my brain could've handled the shock
if that 3 didn’t go in
The KJ one.
After the good defense and only one pass.

Well the ref should've blown the whistle
But yeah the clock definitely would’ve run out before he called the fake TO.
Kind of surprised by the lack of awareness by KJ though to cause any of this controversy

I showed up for OT.
Better late than never.

If you would have told me Truck
would struggle as much as he has today and we’d still have a chance…well…
This game is a lot easier to watch if you assume Truck is high.

Our freshman have serious stones, though

KJ can't rebound
when he has to defend 2 people
Huggins on ESPNU,
“What the Fuck are you doing???”

If I"m Huggs,
I’m grounding Truck Bryant. You don’t get to go out tonight.

Friends, that is a HUGE win for us.
KJ carried them. The freshman responded to his leadership.

no call on the clear tech with 2.1 left, worst officiating…EVER
personally
I don’t want to see Marvin fired, I want him to be promoted to G.M. while handing the reigns over to Zimmer as head coach and hiring Jack Del Rio as Defensive Coordinator. Who Dey!!!

you clearly didn't come here to win this argument did you?
No doubt the calls were questionable, but you’re just here trolling for an argument
agreed
sorry, frustrated is all, my apologies, but to read the comments, pissed me off further, sorry guys, it was a good game, just wish it didn’t come down to officiating

No worries Joe
It was a great game that absolutely had ZERO, er I mean NOTHING, er I mean ZILCH, er I mean NADA to do with officiating. I’m sorry if I didn’t make myself clear. I sometimes have a difficult time in getting my points across. Please don’t beat yourself up over this because it was just WVU not the officials.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that your comment is so wrong that it only warrants a ridiculous response…..Let me take that back. Not ALL of your comment was wrong just the officiating part. I understand being frustrated after that loss and also being stuck in this conference. But let’s fact it, your program was recently in the CUSA…..I think things have worked out perfectly because the teams that deserve to be in nice conferences from the originial BEAST are Miami, VT, BC, Syracuse, PITT and WVU. Not Rutgers, UCONN or anybody else.
you guys escaped
you sure the hell didn’t deserve the win, but, congrats

Are you kidding me? Perseverance is the name of the game. We persevered and Cincy didn’t. That was really an entertaining game.
the better team was robbed my friend

too many injuries….this was an off year despite 12-4. Back to the Bearcats.
How were you robbed? Because we kept answering your shots? Cuz you didn’t think we were going to respond EVERY time Cincy hit a big bucket? It would have been a mild upset had Cincinnati beat us at home, but I give them props. Tough team.
Joe, go back to DownTheDrive
where they give a sh*t what you think.
Off the thread subject
But this is the only one I thought I might get an answer.
The hot rumor is that WVU and The Big East have settled for 24 mil and the deal is done – true or not?
"We're Texas. We don’t derive our value or self-definition from conference affiliation.
If that strikes people as cocky, so what? It’s also true. None of us will chant our conference’s name when we have an off year and Texas Tech wins their bowl game. Our definition of self comes from us – not our conference, not our rivals, not media perception.
Here's hoping it's true
Now, maybe we can get a schedule for next year.
WVU will make the 24 mil in the first year of the Big XII.
Furthermore, we may as well get you started off right – you KNOW it’s BS that they are picking WVU over Texas next year. :-)

They are already bitching
over at Down The Drive. “We would have won if not for the refs.”
Now bringing up Baylor is just hurtful!
