The Shotgun/Throwdown: Tuesday (8/23/11) Edition

749b7645a2f5acd2_img_6042

Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions.  We're being brought to you today by Barba Roja Barrel Aged Red Ale, in honor of today's Miss Throwdown.

The first day of classes is in the books, and I believe the practice sessions, until further notice, are closed to the media (not that they were open to them much before now).  Three more games have their kickoff times set, bringing the total announced to 6.  Success and TV will determine the rest.  There's 2 more season previews today, one is good, the other not so good.  Let the floggings begin!!  I think we'd still have a pretty good Rotten Tomatoes rating thus far this preseason, regardless.  The usual smattering of player profiles are available and a bit of news on the basketball eligibility front as well.

That BC game was incredible

Being down 20-6 at halftime felt like 50-0 with Flutie running things. He was so frustrating to watch your team play against. Then when they finally did sack him, that place went nuts. There was another sack in there where Freddie Smalls jumped on his back and rode him to the ground.

That 84 team was so good. I think they got up to #4 in the country before injuries killed them.

I Was At That Game....

…just a14-year old kid, and bummed because we had seats right on the goal line. Turned out it was the goal line where we made the stand, for which my seat was the best in the house.

Now is the time boys to make a big noise.

Is Maryland trying to give VPI a run

for the title of Ugliest Uniforms? I think so based on a couple of those

Son, that’s Pitt. You hate Pitt now. You hate Pitt tomorrow. You hate Pitt until the day you die. After that, you will hate Pitt for eternity.’ — Jack Fleming’s Mom

Give VPI a run?

In my opinion, the Terps lapped the field with those hideous things.

Two things

First, I agree that WVU should want LSU at it’s best. Best chance to build national credibility. Although when watching the replay of last year’s game, there was a stat quoted on ESPN that since 1979 WVU is 10 – 4 against the SEC ( I guess now 10 – 5). More importantly to national relevance is not losing games that we should win.

Secondly, that is one Rodriguez that all Mountaineers can support.

Captain Sobel, we salute the rank, not the man.

I treasure my remark to my grandson who asked, "Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?" Grandpa said, "No... but I served in a company of heroes".
