The Shotgun/Throwdown: Wednesday (8/17/11) Edition

43_medium

Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions.  We're being brought to you today by Salopian Kashmir, in honor of today's Miss Throwdown and because I love that song.

Practice resumed yesterday and Coach Holgorsen was extremely pleased with the defense.  There's a feature I clipped today to somewhat help decode his press conferences.  Watching them, you can tell he's not used to them and the monotony has gotten to him a bit as I don't think they'll be held everyday after practice, if I read my tweets correctly.  The one thing I have gathered from watching him and reading other opinions is his refreshing honesty in the pressers.  He tells everyone what he's thinking.  Plenty of player features, as usual, today as well.  Back on the basketball front, the men's and women's are still in Europe, and the women dropped their game yesterday to the Dutch nationals.

BREAKING STORY:  According to WVi's Geoff Coyle on Twitter, Director of Football Operations Mike Kerin is retiring after 32 years of service to the Mountaineers.

That Walker TD is the moment I became a true Mountianeer fan.

I was 12, and living in Ohio at the time. My life hasn’t been the same since.

I was a WVU sophomore

thanks for making me feel old. You’re doing a bang up job of that lately :)

Don't worry, youngster....

The Head Coach when I first went to WVU was Bobby Bowden.

I Have Always Loved That Clip....

…that was an awesome night to be in the stadium. I love how the crowd explodes when Walker is at the seven. I was 23 and quit a job to attend that game. Priorities.

Still Gives Me Goosebumps....

but have you ever noticed that play was a run up the middle? Five years later, some asshole had a sign hanging with an up-the-middle-meter. Amazing what great blocking accomplishes.

In regards to the article about the Big East commissioner..

…you know, I really fear for where WVU will end up after the dust settles. Despite the fact that we’re competetitive, have a rabid fan base, and travel as well as any other team, it just doesn’t seem like any one is interested in bringing us into the folds of, say, the ACC, and that they’d rather take less competetive teams that don’t travel as well because they’re in better television markets, despite the fact that WVU has done well with television ratings when on ESPN and the like… I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Mr. Luck will lead us into the light.
