The Shotgun/Throwdown: Friday (4/22/11) Edition
Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions. We're being brought to you today by Gouden Carolus Easter Beer.
Spring practice closes out this week with another scrimmage today. In the meantime, we have several player features and a great article on new outside receivers/return game coach Daron Roberts. Everyone is talking about KJ and his decision to undergo the pre-draft process and whether or not it's the right thing for him. But, perhaps the biggest news is the football season opener (against that other school) has officially gotten a date change to Sunday at 3:30 on ESPN. Change is certainly afoot. Have a great Easter weekend everyone!!

Huggins falling out of love with Morgantown?
Or is he realizing that his efforts to make WVU a bball school has taken a step backwards with the hiring of Holgorsen
Witty Reply
I think it was just a witty reply by Huggins like he often does. He loves it here.
Huggs being Huggs
A lot of his humor is self-deprecating.

anybody following twitter on the scrmmage?
WVU may not want to attempt a FG this year….they have all been blocked or missed today so far, from short range
Any of you guys see Voodoo 5 today?
They’re trolling Oliver Luck for speaking honestly about the Villanova bid to join the football membership. I have no doubt that ’Nova is playing some good 1-AA ball right now, but how long can they sustain that level of play? The biggest question still surrounds, can they get into a stadium that meets all the BCS requirements, and since we already have several football memebers with smallish stadia anyway, is this the image the BE wants to project.

Thanks for the link
They can hate as much as they want; it is better for the long-term success of the Big East to prevent this expansion. Luck is showing the same acumen he has displayed with his brief time at WVU.
When the conference has the most toxic/weak image of any conference in the country — we’re talking Sun Belt level weak — adding a team from the FCS as a member does nothing.
This is about repairing the conference’s image and its reputation, and Luck realizes it.

Yeah, right
Villanova has no stadium, no money, no tradition and no fan base. Other than that, it’s perfect.
WVU does not need Villanova. They need us.
Admittedly, I’m a Steeler fan.
That speech is nothing new to Steelers fans. He is a blowhard. Steelers fans already knew that he had a reputation for pre-game speeches, etc. In fact, that one seems much more tame than others I’ve seen.
Terrell Suggs is a blow-hard. Bart Scott (now w/ Jets) is one too. Ed Reed isn’t one.
James Harrison, Lawrence Timmons, Potsie Farrior, and Lamar Woodley let their actions speak for them.
Talk is overrated. I think it has much more of an effect in college with examples such as Bill Stewart’s pre-game speech prior to winning the Fiesta Bowl coming to mind.
