The Shotgun/Throwdown: Wednesday (12/21/11) Edition

Aguilabeergirledecanforkparty_thumb2_medium

Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions. We're being brought to you today by Aguila Beer, in honor of today's Miss Throwdown.

The women picked up another victory last night against Mount St. Mary's; we have a recap and some interviews. On the men's side, there's a good bit of reflection going on as Huggs is just one win away from the 700 win mark. We have Caleb's Pro Recap today along with more features on the Orange Bowl, including a couple looks at the coaches.

I have learned a few things about this blog and have enjoyed others

I have enjoyed
The shotgun/throwdown thread – I wish BON would do this
The Miss Throwdown segment and the other lovely ladies
The witty reparte’ from your posters

What I have learned
There is a hatred of Pitt that almost rivals UT’s hatred of OU
The BE hatred of WVU almost rivals the entire country’s hatred of UT
WVU playing in the Orange Bowl is significantly better than any bowl that the Big 12 is playing in
We have exchanged aggys embarrassing yell leaders for WVU’s hot cheerleaders
UT’s liberal Arts college will NOT like losing the aggy yell leaders and will resent the WVU cheerleaders as sexist and not enlightened
WVU is exceptionally excited about the sport of basketball

Questions & Answers
1. Are or are you not going to be playing in the Big 12 next year?
2. Will you bring your cheerleaders to Austin?
3. Are there any good hotels in Morgantown?
4. Are they lengthening your airports runways?
5. The good news for WVU is that the Big 12 will be considerably weaker next year
6. More good news is that WVU’s offense will be on a par with the Big 12’s offenses next year.
7. The bad news is that the Big 12’s defenses will destroy your offense next year.
8. UT would like to recruit one of your cheerleaders to play QB for them next year.
9. If she capable of throwing a football to an orange jersey – UT will win the Big 12 next year.
10. My opinion of the order of strength next year is as follows

UT – with an average QB
OU – because they are OU
TCU – Patterson knows how to win
Kansas State – If Snyder doesn’t die from old age
WVU – because I am partial to the Garrison kid
Texas Tech – because Tubs players will be a little older
Oklahoma State – most of their skill players will be gone
Iowa State – I just can’t bring myself to respect IS
Baylor – assuming RGIII goes pro – if not, all bets are off
Kansas – because they suck!

Proud of your offense? Manny badger don't give a shit!

Let's see what we can do here.

First, thanks for stopping by and contributing. One thing I am really looking forward to is interacting with fans from our new conference who should bring more passion and knowledge than fans from our current conference. That’s part of what makes this blog network so great, and I can say for sure that your contributions add to that.

To respond:

1. I still think so, but am not as confident as I was a month ago.
2. Yes, our cheerleaders travel all over with the team. I bet we bring our band to a few games a year as well.
3. Absolutely. Waterfront Place would be the signature hotel, with Hotel Morgan coming in a close second if you want a historical place and/or want to stay downtown within walking distance to the bars. There are also all the major chains, including Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, and Residence Inn, which are all newer and close to the stadium.
4. I haven’t heard much about that recently. I think so? But it won’t be for a few years. Flying into Pittsburgh and driving down isn’t a bad way to go.
5. Great news.
6. Absolutely.
7. Doubtful. I’m not saying we won’t struggle from time to time, but you did see the LSU game, right?
8. Male or female cheerleader? How do you feel about a majorette?
9. That’s…bold.
10. I think you might be a little biased. It’s going to be hard to predict because other than Kansas (who may improve with Charlie Weis and some transfers (aside: I can’t WAIT to make fun of Weis on a weekly basis next year!)) everyone will have some holes to fill but will have the talent to be pretty good.

Ok, be advised

Referring to #8, I want to be perfectly clear. I was most definitely referring to your FEMALE cheerleaders – lest there be any confusion.

I don’t understand why the BE is so intent on keeping you in the conference. They know you have accepted the Big 12 invite and are a future member and don’t WANT to remain in the BE. So what is their deal? The same appies to Pitt and Syracuse.
They already have new members and don’t need you guys now, so it appears to all of us this is simply a spite thing. And that’s just stupid, because it puts that conference on the Big 12’s shit list which could impact any future OOC games that might happen between the Big 12 and the BE..

Proud of your offense? Manny badger don't give a shit!

Haha.

Well the males might have better arms….

I agree with you to an extent on the 27 month wait. The only issue I see from the Big East’s perspective (aside from, you know, the contract providing for it) is that the new members won’t be able to come into the conference next year, so they’d have to play a season with 7 teams again (same as 2004, which was a complete train wreck) and everyone would have to add an extra game at the last minute.

But I agree that it’s not smart to keep a team who doesn’t want to be there and that it might affect future OOC scheduling with the B12.
