Cs-eagle-claw-fist_medium

Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions.  We're being brought to you today by Eagle Claw Fist Imperial Amber Ale in preparation of tonight's opponent.

Brawl week continues as both coaches try to downplay the bad blood that exists between them and shift the focus to the teams.  Video of Holgorsen's weekly presser and plenty of player interviews are available as well.

Back on the basketball court, Huggs is happy to take the team to Charleston tonight where they'll likely play in front of more fans than they have the last 2 games.  Morehead St. visits tonight and there are plenty of game previews (we'll have ours later this afternoon) and a couple of videos to go through.

Let's GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slightly off Topic

The below link:
http://eye-on-collegefootball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/33438233

is about a Baylor Student on crutches who rushed the field after the Bears won last week.

I haven’t seen anything about the Baylor Students getting tazed or pepper sprayed. So my question is

1) Why does WVU pepper spray fans who rush the field?

2) Should we tell visiting fans, from Baylor for example, that if they do rush the field, they will be pepper sprayed?

3) Threats of pepper spray deter people from rushing the field. Rushing the field is fun. People go to the game for fun. Ergo, not being allowed to rush the field might be a cause for some of the student fan apathy?

I’m not saying that student’s actually elucidate the thought “We can’t rush the field, so were not gonna go to the game.” I’m just wondering if there is some truth to the old “The police presense and authoritarian atmosphere make it less enjoyable.”

It doesn’t make it less enjoyable for me, because I’m not trying to do anything but watch a game.

Students on the other hand are there to watch the game, to see people, to be seen, to get drunk, to get silly, to get stoned, and to celebrate. Why do other places allow celebration in the form of rushing the field, but WVU doesn’t?

things to consider

if you go someplace your not supposed to be ramifications can and do happen. i have no sympathy for anybody who gets pepper sprayed or tazed. there is a reason they got it. perhaps im too harsh, perhaps its because i’ve been hit with the military grade stuff for riot training which makes the stuff cops use look like water…personally i giggle each time i see people complain about pepper spray.

but on that same note there should be some discretion in its use. hitting an 80 yearold in the grill with it (your not supposed to aim above the chest anyway) is not a very wise thing to do because of the health issue’s it can cause…long term issues.

I'm a big believer in the fact that

there are consequences for one’s behavior. My question is why does WVU feel the need to prohibit and discourage such behavior when other Universities don’t?

And perhaps other Universities do prohibit and discourage such behavior, but at Baylor, in this case, they didn’t feel the need to taze or pepper spray anybody.

Getting way off topic,

Supposing Pepper spray and/or tazing was unable to deter people from rushing the field, would we then escalate to using Batons and/or lethal weapons? At some point, don’t the authorities say “The methods we are using to control the situation aren’t working, and additional force will only make the situation worse, so lets just try to make sure that during this chaos no-one gets hurt.” “After all, the point of us being here is to keep people safe”
