Not to be nit-picky...
But sure Moses got the Egyptians out of slavery, then he led them through the wilderness for 40 (some say 80 years) then died before he could get them to the Promised Land.

It was the Hebrews
that he led to freedom from the Egyptians, but the point is well taken. And West Texas would indeed be the wilderness.
