Big 12 Facts Sheet
Since the pending move to the Big 12 is now official, I thought it would be a good time to look at the conference, travel distances (from Morgantown), airport access, stadium/arena capacities, coaches, recent records and bowl game affiliations. For comparison sake:
- Morgantown is 81 miles from the Pittsburgh (PIT) airport and 34 miles from the Clarksburg/Bridgeport (CKB) airport.
- Milan Puskar Stadium officially holds 60,000 and the WVU Coliseum holds 14,000.

Welcome Mountaineers
I was very happy when the Big XII (- one or two) made it official.
I’m not close enough to attend many games in Manhattan any more, but look forward to seeing you take on the Big XII teams in TV appearances. Best of luck to you and it’s great to have you on board.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.
A quick PS.
Manhattan has a large enough airport to handle charter flights of typical commercial aircraft if the team travels by charter flight. Commercial flights also come into Salina which is about 1 hour closer than KC, but often requires a plane change somewhere. For that matter, there are commercial flights into Manhattan from DFW or O’Hare daily.
The same thing goes for several other cities in the Big 12 area. They have local airports that can handle large charter aircraft and have commercial flights in/out, but don’t have the direct service connections.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.
Don't forget about flying directly into Manhattan.
There are two flights daily that fly from DFW (Dallas) to Manhattan via American Eagle.
Surgeon General's Warning: K-State-Mizzou basketball may increase the risk of high blood pressure. Please consult your doctor prior to watching any of these games.
I was only looking at major airports that I could discern
I’m sure there are regional airports much closer, like the Clarksburg one for WVU and even Morgantown’s small airport that they are looking to expanding
if there was ever a need for a "stickey" feature
this tpost is it. great post lots of great info and yeah, massive upgrade in bowls

Nice work, IE.
A few thoughts:
1. I thought Jeff Capel was the coach at Oklahoma now? Or did that change this offseason?
2. I can’t decide which blog name I like better, “Wide Right & Natty Light” or “Rock Chalk Talk”
3. How is Manhattan so much farther west than Lawrence, yet fewer miles away as per the table?

VERY funny dude from Oklahoma
@widertnattylt
to take some work load off of you tonight – and yes, @Landthieves is funny unless Oklahoma is losing to Tech – then he turns into sad panda.
just because I rock, doesn't mean I'm made of stone.
Jer is my personal twitter pimp.
You guys should put up a list of good WVU follows for us B12ers too.

There's a list of our authors in the left margin on the front page.
And depending on what type of follows you’re looking for (funny/blogger/journalist/etc.) my list of following has a pretty good smattering of folks on it.

Welcome to the Big 12, we're happy to have you
K-State fan here, and my wife is from West Virginia (near Wheeling). I go to West Virginia a couple of times a year and really like it. You’ll enjoy the games and building rivalries. I’m really glad to pick up a school that has a good basketball and football programs, as well as a devoted and intense fanbase.
You may know me as NYRoyal.
Not a complete answer, but:
Pitt is about an hour away with traffic. Cincinnati, Louisville and Rutgers and even Syracuse were driveable but long. UConn and USF required flights.
The thing is, most of our fans and alumni are based in the east: DC, NYC, Philly, etc., or even the south (Atlanta, Charlotte). I don’t think we have as many alumni in Texas/Oklahoma/Kansas/Iowa who could travel to those games. That’s the main difference, IMO.

If it's any consolation...
I’m holding out hope for SU vs WVU to continue… no, it’s not a Big XII game but it might be the closest away game of interest for WVU fans. Maybe we could do a BIG XII (WVU) vs ACC (SU/Pitt) game at RFK in DC?
Orange you glad it's not football season?
might be a bit redundant
considering…
Military Bowl Washington, DC ACC
Orange you glad it's not football season?
Basically depends on scheduling
If the Big 12 and ACC are playing 8 conference games (which isn’t likely, I think), there’s room for a fairly regular SU/WVU game. With both playing 9 conference games (the most probable scenario), if you figure WVU is going to play Pitt and a cupcake that only leaves one spot for SU or anyone else of consequence they might want to play out of conference; there’s a bunch of ACC teams other than us plus Penn State and ECU that are at least kind-of sort-of rivals with the ‘eers. I hope SU/WVU doesn’t become as infrequent as SU/Penn State has since they joined the Big Ten, but it could.
I'd love to keep playing 'Cuse.
But I think you’re right about the 9 games plus Pitt. At least you have Boston College back. And VT. Maybe UConn becomes a yearly OOC game?

K-State checking in here...
Welcome to the Big 12.
The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will. - Vince Lombardi
With WVU's recent success in women's hoops...
…it should be noted that the Big 12 is solid in that as well. Texas A&M won the NCAA title last March, Baylor is the choice of many to win it all this year, and several other schools (Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Texas) usually field strong teams; ISU and Tech are perennially among the nation’s attendance leaders.
Welcome Couch Burners!
WideRightNattyLite welcomes you to the B12 and the B12 SBN roll. Looking forward to some kickass group riots together!
Never met an Iowa State fan before.
But if you guys are an accurate representative of your fan base as a whole…I think I may enjoy having y’all around Morgantown and may have to make a trip to Ames at some point, just for the tailgating alone.

Apparently Dumpsters are to Ames what couches are to Morgantown
It wasn’t like that when I was in grad school there in the ’80s.
Also, the stadiums at ISU and WVU were designed by the same architect.
I've heard that if you love Pittsburgh you'll love Lubbock
