Today we have more conference madness, yet there is the matter of the Rutgers game Saturday. Also today are a couple nice tributes to Jack Fleming's longtime broadcast sidekick who passed away yesterday, Woody O'Hara.

But to embarrass the Mountaineers like this is unforgivable. I have no idea who to blame. I think Neinas is the least likely suspect. This kind of madness was going on before he arrived and this kind of madness was going on after Beebe was beheaded. So the common denominators are the leaders at the schools.

I went to the Pitt/UConn game last night.
It was my first experience of Heinz Field. Very cool layout, nice place. There were probably 5,000 fans in attendance — it was very easy to spot WVU fans peppered throughout the crowd.
I heard the occasional “Let’s Go Mountaineers” but overall the crowd was pretty subdued despite their team playing its second-best game of the season thus far. Felt like a high school game, honestly — and the three people I was with (two were Pitt fans) expressed the same sentiment.
We had tickets on the 35 yard line, six rows from the field. Under ten bucks a pop, so that part was worth it.
Not intended as a slight to UConn, but Paul P. looked like a man who was probably mumbling to himself, “four games to go, four games to go, four games and then I retire” the entire game. He didn’t get involved during timeouts, he paced half-heartedly around the first down marker. Not good, y’all. I hope UConn snags a better coach this go ’round (GET THE PIRATE. GET THE PIRATE).
When we were leaving the venue there were a whole bunch of WVU fans shouting “Let’s Go Mountaineers” basically from Heinz down to PNC. They came running by us when we reached PNC. “What happened?” I asked. One guy said, “A guy pulled out a pistol and said he’d shoot me if we didn’t stop chanting. I’m getting the f*ck out of here. Not gettin’ killed for that.”
Dammit, Pittsburgh.

Pulled a gun
And no one out of the whole group called the police? Sounds questionable to me.
they may have. I don't know.
They couldn’t have been more than 19 or 20, and were hauling ass down the street. maybe their first thought was self-preservation.
I don’t care either way. I live in Pittsburgh and never feel unsafe, so either it was one freaky deaky bad apple, or they were lying.

Pickens thinks he OWNS Oklahoma State - a very rich buffoon!
We’re Texas.
We don’t derive our value or self-definition from conference affiliation.
If that strikes people as cocky, so what? It’s also true. None of us will chant our conference’s name when we have an off year and Texas Tech wins their bowl game. Our definition of self comes from us – not our conference, not our rivals, not media perception.
I am embarressed
For the weak kneed reneging of the Big XII’s acceptance of WVU and for the heartbreak and disappointment WVU fans are having to endure.

Kirk Bohls (Austin American Statesman) just twittered that one of the concerns for the Big XII is “runway length of the local airport”.

Kirk Bohls is another embarrassment that we at UT have to endure

By now, you should be sick of the whole damned thing, but here is an interesting tidbit from the Austin American Statesman
A high-ranking official a third Big 12 school said the league was divided about whether to invite West Virginia, based on its premier football program and greater athletic success, or opt for Louisville, a marquee basketball school in closer proximity to all Big 12 members.
He said he believes Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor and Iowa State favor Louisville while Texas is one of the schools that prefers West Virginia.
“We’re going to let both of them make a formal pitch next week,” the second official said. “Our board of directors is meeting next week. People have tried to keep Missouri, but they’re trying to get out as fast as they can.”
So, WVU, don’t hate on UT – we are in your corner.
We’re Texas.
We don’t derive our value or self-definition from conference affiliation.

You can land a 747 in Bridgeport.
Our OWN $#%@! teams fly out of Bridgeport.
Most visiting teams stay in Washington PA, which is further than Bridgeport, but is on the way to Pittsburgh’s airport.
I’m sure it could be easily arranged to block out hotel space in Clarksburg/Bridgeport and have them fly there and stay there. In fact, it would be cheaper to build a new hotel on Jerry Dove drive that does nothing but host visiting teams than it would be to add 2000’ to the Morgantown runway. (which was one potential solution I heard mentioned)
Airport issue is either a strawman, or was brought up by people who are stupid.

Here's the way i see it :
1) this has turned into a political circus thanks in large part to Sen. Mcconnel and OU. Clearly the high unemployment rate in Kentucky is secondary to terrible UL football.
2) If the Big XII was collectively smart picking up WVU is a no branier. The school has as good as if not consistently better then BB program then Mizzou, but so does UL. However football is where the money is to be had and WVU is head and shoulders above Mizzou and UL. If they dont want to turn into the next BE (great BB conference, meh football overall controlled by two teams) they would be wise to bring in WVU.
3) If the Big XII was even smarter they wouldnt want to be the second Big XI in the country (see the Big ten with 11 teams) bring both schools in, it raises the bar of the basketball, and balances out the football.
