The Shotgun/Throwdown: Wednesday (10/26/11) Edition
Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions. We're being brought to you today by Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest Lager.
So much for the gut wrenching to be over as it seems, thanks in no small part to alleged meddling of Kentucky (Louisville) politicians, that WVU's impending move has caught it's foot on a nail in the floor:
Big 12 Move Hits Snag - WVMETRONEWS.COM
But sources say the process hit a “bump in the road” last night. WVU was apparently notified by the Big 12 that it needed “more information” from WVU and that there would be a vote by the Big 12 Board, perhaps on Monday
Feel free to call Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell and voice your displeasure of him possibly meddling in college athletics when there are more important issues a U.S. Senator should be concerned with. Here is his office phone number and email link:

"snag"
So much garbage is being fed to the media by interested parties hoping to generate some advantage for themselves. We shouldn’t have “celebrated” until there were official announcements.
I hate to
sound cynical and douchey, but seriously? We took anything but an official press conference as definitive. The way the last 2 months played out I’m not believing anything until I see two official press conferences, from both the conference and the school.
Back to the waiting game I guess.

Louisville used to just annoy me.....
But now I’m starting to full-on hate the bastards. Furk!

“there are more important issues a U.S. Senator should be concerned with”
Have to disagree.
His constituents should be his first priority. What concerns them should concern him. If Louisville had been invited, I would hope our Senators would stand up for us.
Additionally, college athletics are a multi-billion dollar per year industry. The government should pay as much attention to it as it does other multi-billion dollar industries. In fact, it should pay more attention to it because more people care about it. More people are intimately concerned about the BCS system as they are about 90% of what does on in Washington. If given the choice between an NCAA playoff and reformed textile regulations, which would you choose?

If Louisville is indeed involved in getting us held up...
…then I take back everything I’ve said about them joining with us and I hope they rot in the Big Least.

RIP Woody
You and Jack will never be forgotten by this Mountaineer!
My re-vised take - it is becoming very clear now.
WVU is going to the Big XII – that is a done deal
Bu,t NOW, so is Louisville
But, but…that make the Big XII uneven and with 11 teams.
That’s because the procrastinators (Missouri) have, all of a sudden, taken the WTF position while observing the Big XII’s pro-active and aggressive moves.
In other words, they are staying
We’re Texas.
We don’t derive our value or self-definition from conference affiliation.
If that strikes people as cocky, so what? It’s also true. None of us will chant our conference’s name when we have an off year and Texas Tech wins their bowl game. Our definition of self comes from us – not our conference, not our rivals, not media perception.
I can't take anymore of the bullshit
How much more can a fan take? This heartache is going to be the death of me.

Sigh
Another reason for me to hate American politics. I didn’t see Louisville step up when Pitt and ’Cuse joined the ACC, now all the sudden they realize there is no bastion of hope for their athletics teams so they have to interfere and basically “cut in line.”
Now I feel like it comes down to lobbying—who is going to pad the Big 12’s pockets enough to get the one invite they feel like giving out? All the sudden the Big 12 probably realized it could profit from this situation and is going to exploit it.
I don’t see much reason for Louisville getting the invite instead of WVU (other than maybe geographical proximity), but I can’t deal with this non-committal BS anymore, and that includes Missouri.
