The Shotgun/Throwdown: Tuesday (9/14/10) Edition
Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions. We're being brought to you today by Robinson's Unicorn Best Bitter, in honor of today's Miss Throwdown.
Maryland prep is in full swing and unfortunately WVU just earned it's first points in the Fulmer Cup for 2010 has it's first legal trouble of the football season (I respectfully stand corrected by the boss). Words escape me right now, but all of the coverage (and more) you've grown to know and enjoy is inside. If you have any tips, suggestions or requests, you can send them to me by email or Twitter. Time for the "you know what" and I hope you are asking, "How high?"

FYI
Fulmer Cup is an off-season competition. We can rape and pillage all we want during the season.

What he said ^ The 2010 Cup closed on Sept 1.
I was worried by the fact that the Mountaineers did not score a single Fulmer Cup point this year.
In the SEC, a non-injury DUI for a star player would only draw a one-game suspension. See Carlos Dunlap, Dec 2009

My math.
Two wrongs equal a right, right? DUI = wrong. Driving the wrong way down a one-way street = wrong. You see where I’m going with this…

I forgot about Dunlap.
Seems like a lot of people are saying “Hogan must go.” But I’m not sure I agree. Sure, he has a spotty record (and likely a problem with alcohol), but his offenses do not involve drugs or violence. I remember when I was living in Columbus and Steve Bellisari (OSU’s starting QB at the time) was picked up for DUI. I believe he was suspended a few games and then came back and finished the season.
I also remember in 2007 when Lankster and JT3 were arrested for stealing a laptop. In some ways, that’s more serious than the DUI. They were suspended for a few games and came back to finish the season.
Without knowing all the facts, I anticipate a several-game suspension and, with the consent of some sort of player advisory group, the chance to work himself back toward the end of the season.

A DUI is only two points I believe unless Hogan had some drugs on him. A five point offense is murder.
My personal favorite is the “FIDC” offense or “Fightin’ in ’da Club”
I don’t recall how many points each the Marshall players received this offseason for what they did, although I have to think stomping out the pizza guy warrants more than the standard two points you get for typical bar brawls.

Marshall ended the Fulmer Cup in a three-way
tied at 10 points with Ohio University and University of Florida

That Dale Miller opinion article has to be read through a filter
The “My boss is running against Manchin for the Senate” filter. I agree with the gist of it too, but the timing is funny. Like all the sudden the Governor’s dabbling is problematic, but not before now?
point duly noted, and you're right
but I completely agree with the sentiment…elected/public officials have no business in Athletic Dept. affairs.
