FIRE BILL STEWART NOW...
The pittsburgh post gazette WVU reporter Colin Dunlap is reporting that WVU has yet another NCAA violation of misuse of equipment during practices. That on a day when only helmets are allowed, some players wore vests. On one hand this seems like NCAA is targeting us & being very NIT PICKY but a rule is a rule, as small & ridiculous as it seems. The fact that the compliance people @ WVU are either sleeping on the job or Stewart is taking a page from RICH ROD & turning a blind eye to these rules infractions.... MR. STEWART if you truly love your alma mater, step down now & let newly hired OLIVER LUCK find your replacement to lead the PRIDE OF WEST VIRGINIA....

there are too many STUPID rules & minor infractions, but the facts are the facts, BILL STEWART must go, & must go SOONER rather then LATER…hope he’s merely keeping the SEAT warm for someone much more qualified at worst after this season…
oh would you stop, this season is his make or break season for sure, but sweet jesus the season hasnt even started yet.

Do you know the rule cited?
First, chill son. Take a deep breath, step back from the ledge and bring your mind back to the real world.
The NCAA has not ruled about whether this is a violation. The rule talks about “protective gear” and then specifically says “shoulder pads.” Knee braces could be considered protective gear, shirts could be protective gear because it protects you from the sun. This is a possible minor violation and is legitimately something a majority of schools did.
Chill my friend chill. The season is young, let it play out and then make up your mind about Stew
Leave no doubt tonight! Leave no doubt tonight! No doubt! They shouldn't of played the Old Gold'n Blue.

I"m not on THE LEDGE, this is my opinion, I don’t think he was qualified to get the HC job to begin with, the old AD made the decision in the “heat of the moment” after we thrashed Okla…instead of oh say, letting things die down & taking the flight back to motown…Anyways, I also believe he is just keeping the seat warm for hopefully just this 1 more season….
That's fine that you don't think he was qualified,
but why can’t we just support him while he’s here rather than calling for him to be fired based on every single perceived misstep? In the end, this is all going to come down to wins and losses. If he wins, he should stay. If he starts losing more than 3-4 games a year, he should go. This piddly little issue shouldn’t be the deciding factor.

LOL
So you’re telling me that 9-3’s and 8-4’s for the next decade is acceptable to you? In a conference that only has 7 other teams and therefore you have 3-4 automatic wins, instead of 2 like most other conferences?
If he goes 9-3 this season, he’s gone…..Buh bye.
my only word of caution to you is: Nebraska
they fired a 9-3 coach (Solich) and they haven’t been nearly the same (relevant) since (and we don’t have Nebraska’s resources).
Now, do I aspire to 9-3, no…but I don’t go firing a 9-3 coach unless you have a grand slam hire waiting.
+1
and even those grand slam hires can turn into busts. most of the violations cited are either secondary, or occured during rod’s tenure. this latest one is so retarded it makes no sense to even have it around…seriously no padding other then helmets…no vests..no nothing??? i would imagine that most of the staff thought they were fine since the vest the guys were wearing wasnt your typical football equipment…big deal

Everything else aside,
I don’t get your logic about having 7 other teams and 3-4 automatic wins v. 2 automatic wins in bigger conferences. In the Big East, I’ll give you Syracuse and Louisville as automatic wins for WVU. In the ACC, you have Virginia, Maryland, Duke and NC State. In the SEC, you have Vandy, Kentucky, Miss St. In the Big 10, you have Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, and Northwestern.
If the Big East has 2 good, 4 average, and 2 bad teams, other conferences are typically comprised of 3 good, 6 average, and 3 bad teams. Either way, the ratio is the same.

I'm not talking about the conference games
as the auto. wins.
Non-conference. LSU is the cream, while UNLV, Coastal, Marshall, Maryland and whoever else are auto wins………and when I say auto wins….I mean NONE of those teams has any business being on the same field as WVU, although I’ll give you that Maryland is at least an ACC school…..a lousy and boring one.
Boy, the ACC sucks.
Oh , ok.
I misunderstood what you were getting at. I think the idea is for WVU to have 2 BCS teams, 2 non-BCS teams, and 1 FCS team. And while you’re right about Maryland not deserving to be on the same field, it’s hard to control that when the games are scheduled.
I did some looking around at other schools’ schedules. The Pac 10 is the only conference to have 9 conference games, so most schools schedule 4 nonconference games. Texas plays UCLA and 3 auto wins. Auburn plays Clemson and 3 auto wins. Florida plays USF, FSU, and 2 auto wins. Oregon plays Tennessee and 2 auto wins. Ohio State plays Miami and 3 auto wins.
So if Maryland was decent, we would pretty much be on par with most other teams. And while I’d prefer to play one more BCS school instead of Marshall, the requirement of having 7 home games hinders us from being able to do that.

Respect To Those Of You Who Have Responded....
…but the title of this post is pretty much beneath comment at this point. If we go 8-5, I will post something under this same header….
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.
I just want to make sure we're straight
so if this WVU team, LOADED defensively w/ supposed depth at nearly every position, arguably a Top 3 RB to ever play for the Mountaineers, a good o-line (w/ exception of RT), and a promising 4-5 star QB goes 10-3 or 9-4 then you’re content with that? I’m just happy that President Clements and Oliver Luck don’t feel that way.
Let’s go through the schedule:
-Coastal, Marshall, Maryland and UNLV-4 automatic wins, period. (if there’s any debate, then that’s evident of lesser expectations at WVU)-2 automatic wins (again, there isn’t any debate).
—Louisville and Syracuse
That leaves us w/ South Florida, Cincinnati, PITT, LSU, UCONN and Rutgers….if we go 3-3 that gives us a 9-3 regular season and a bad bowl game. I really believe that we need to beat PITT OR LSU to have a successful season. We are better than those other teams given the high expectations of this team…….11-2 is the bare basement of where we should be THIS season and many on here already believe in those same expectations….and if he’s any head coach, of course Stewart believes that’s what they should do as well.
It all comes down to the 6 game season we truly have (not counting 6 auto wins) and this is the case for all solid teams in college football (due to scheduling cream puffs, auto wins, etc).
And this year 4-2 and especially 3-3 would be horrible seasons for WVU whereas 5-1 would be acceptable (meaning we either beat PITT or LSU….and hopefully both).
I don’t think this is unreasonable by any means.
on paper and pre-season, it's not unreasonable
but there’s much more to a football season than what’s on paper. You being a Steeler fan with last year’s season especially, you should realize that.
Completely agree w/ you.
Last year’s 9-7 team was disheartening after coming off SB win.
The difference is that Mike Tomlin made playoffs (including SB win) first 2 years and then finished last year very strong after losing 5 in a row to doormats…..He, nor the team, ever quit and they still finished w/ winning record…..which is entirely different than just finishing w/ a winning record in college football.
Bill Stewart has done nothing but underperform as a head coach and this year is a critical year for him. I don’t think that just finishing w/ a winning record (4-2) is going to be enough for him.
Decided to crunch some numbers
to determine how Stewart does against teams w/ talent levels in the same stratosphere as WVU (obviously excluding DII, Marshalls, and underbelly that is Syracuse, Colorado last year and Louisville)
2008: Record 5-4 wins against Rutgers, Auburn, UCONN, USF and UNC.
Losses: ECU, Colorado (worst loss of Stewart era), UC, PITT
We had the best QB in WVU history on that team.
2009: Record 4-4 wins against ECU (I guess), UCONN, PITT (best win under Stewart era…..exhibition games don’t count where the other team was not interested), Rutgers
Losses: Auburn, USF (very ugly), Cincy, FSU (very ugly)
So he’s 9-8 in 2 years…..just not good enough.
Hopefully, it changes this year.
RUMOR
heard that 2 of the top alumni / contributors of MONEY aren’t happy with Stewart & are standing there ground wanting him gone @ season’s end….
RUMOR
3 top alumni/contributors of MONEY and 3 priests are happy with Stewart and want to give him a chance to win.
Leave no doubt tonight! Leave no doubt tonight! No doubt! They shouldn't of played the Old Gold'n Blue.

Stewart will be gone
if he doesn’t go 11-2, and w/ this team I think he just may do it. Our only question is at QB and many of the Smokin’ Muskets love how he recruits. It’s time to utilize that recruiting talent and see how that all works out……Sure, I think the kid’s got promise. I am also smelling injury troubles from him.
