RUMOR MILL: WVU to the SEC?!!!!

ESPN Radio is reporting that the SEC commish is in prelimnary talks to bring four schools to their conference:

Star-divide

1. MIAMI

2. GA TECH

3. FLORIDA ST

and........

4. WVU!!!!

Did Christmas come early, or am I just reading way too far in to this once-a-day conference realignment rumor mill? This could create some amazing new rivalries (and renew some old ones) and give us a boost in recruiting. Our program is good enough to compete in the SEC. I don't see anything negative coming from this!

What show was this on? Who said it (one of the ESPN talent or Joe calling in from the bar)?

it was the show Chris Low is on

but here’s his reaction to the “rumor” that he himself “started”:

The ONLY negative to this would be

being in a lesser BB conference, but the positives FAR outweigh that negative

so we would dominate BB

how is that a negative

Don't forget

Florida won back-to-back National Championships in BB just a few years ago (2006 & 2007). There’s no reason to think that Billy Donovan’s teams will stay down.

This is news to me. I’ve been hearing all the rumors about the Big 10 from my Cleveland Browns DBN page, but WVU to the SEC is new to me. I would be all for this. If several other Big East teams move to the Big 10, I would prefer we join the SEC.

I think the SEC would be awesome, we’d take some lumps @ first, but think we’d be up there competeing for conf championships within 3 – 5 seasons, of course, “Aw schucks
I”m just glad to be the coach of WVU" stewart would have to step aside, retire, & get a more hard nose, SEC kinda coach… I don’t want to go to ACC, they stink & its just another basketball FIRST conference… football is an afterthought to them

agree on the first part (Stewart would need to go: good assistant, not greatest coach)
disagree on the second. I think the SEC would raise our competition drastically and would help WVU in a quest to reach a national championship.

Also, we could kick the s#$% out of Georgia again

I think you guys are crazy....

If we can’t win the Big East every year in its current form, how are we going to compete for SEC championships? Sorry, but we are not YET on the level of Alabama, UF, LSU, etc. We’d be a mid tier SEC team like Auburn. We’d have to expand our stadium, step up the recruiting, get a new head ball coach, and all of our whiney fair weather fans would have to also step it up. And in a larger conference we would certainly have a LOT more dough to do these things, but I really think it would be a long long process. I hate the ACC but I think our chances of winning conference championships, going to BCS bowl games, winning NC’s is much easier in the Big East or ACC. I certainly realize that the very difficult SEC has been winning a majority of the recent NC’s but again….we’d have a LONG way to go.
