Game Thread: Regional Semis - #2 WVU vs. #11 Washington
Washington Huskies at West Virginia Mountaineers, Mar 25, 2010 7:27 PM EDT
Somewhat similar to Missouri, Washington wants to get up and down the floor a lot and quickly. I really like the way our defense has been since "the speech." As usual, there are many more questions to be answered tonight. Is Washington a "Cinderella" whose bell tolls midnight tonight or do they continue on? How does WVU respond to the loss of Truck? Can Mazzulla stay out of foul trouble and still be effective? When Joe gets some rest, how will Da and Ebanks respond when handling the ball? Will the state of NY continue to treat this WVU team well in 2010? I love this team and the ride we've been on. Let's get another one tonight and keep this thing going! There's much more to accomplish.
As always, and forever...

Fifth starter still mysterious
Per CasazzaBlog, WVU just turned in its starting line-up: Da’, KJ, WELLS, Ebanks, and (blank). Seriously.

on Pondexter. That’s a huge break for us. Need to get a 4-6 point lead going into halftime, then go after him and get 4 on him early in the second.

Completely wasted
Pondexter’s 1H absence.

24 seconds to half time
They have 29 points. Bet they don’t make 69.

Gotta Find a Way...
…to cut down the turnovers. That is killing us. We can do this with a halftime adjustment.

Surprisingly, we’re only -2 on turn-overs, and we’re +6 on rebounds. I’ll take those numbers, if we can maintain them.

C'mon Guys
Settle it down. This team won’t go away, and we’re not helping with the turnovers.

I'm still wary of them, but...
I think they’ve just about run their own legs off instead of ours. U Dub is looking slow getting back into defense and not as lively on offense as they were in the first half.

This team is learning to step on throats now.
Great D fellas.
keep this going
Let’s keep this going and beat Cornel for final 4

Awesome
But I hate CBS. Anyone know what happened when they switched over to the Syracuse game. When our game came back on it looked like the ref was holding mazzua back and calming him down. Was there a scuffle

Come on Cornell
I really just want to see Calipari get knocked down a peg. Question of the day How long until UK is on sanctions

Great game!
WVU frustrated and out-physicaled UW. They had the pace right where they wanted it and UW got sloppy. WVU is impressive on the boards. Good luck from here!
Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast.
Hey, thanks!
That was a good game, and I have the feeling we’ll be seeing your guys again next year.

well looks like its gonna be the “CHEATER” calipari & ashley judd vs mountaineer nation….the thing that scares me the most about UK, is there size, they have 3 players
6-10 or bigger, our tallest is 6-9 ebanks & the instaBUL from turkey… come on hugs, think up some crazy stuff & give mountaineer nation another reason to love you
But has Kentucky played a team as physical as us

Wrong
Missisippi state makes you guys look like schoolchildren in that regard. Everyone in the SEC has been hacking Big Cuz all year. BTW; congrats on the Big Win,looks like the prediction I made in these pages will come true. The Tri-State is gonna blow up!!! So much for the vaunted Big East that you guys hyped up so much!! Thankfully WVU has shown toughness all year, as the rest of the Big Easy, I mean Big East is just plain weak and over-hyped. Good luck against the Cats..Butler can score and rebound, but can he stop Big Cuz? No one else can; should we expect WVU to? What about Mazzoula? Is he the answer for John Wall? Bledsoe is quicker than anyone you guys can muster, and Patterson is feeling personal about all of this. I say it’s looking pretty GOOD for UK.

#1
Mississippi State being as physical as WVU is laughable……they aren’t even in NCAA tourney
- Big East is more dominant as a basketball conference than the SEC is as a football conference……I don’t care that this many teams got knocked out.
The best team in the land (Kansas) got knocked out in the first weekend. It doesn’t change anything about conference domination…
you made MSU's case for them
If so many tournament spots had not been wasted on the obviously overrated and overhyped Big East, MSU would be in no problem.
"all the way"
I left out this question:
How many nc’s in the last 5 years for Big East in BBall? One?, how about 4 of the last 5 for the SEC in football. THAT is dominance. I have so little regard for WVU football and the conference they belong to that I assert that UK would beat WVU in Football any time on any field. I completely understand that UK is one of the traditional doormats of the SEC . That is how little regard I have for WVU football and the confrence that that program is a part of. This will be validated in the next three years if the recruits that Snyder got at Marshall ever get coached professionally on the field. Is the new guy capable? We will see; but it looks like he will at least have a little ammo.
"all the way"
Um, okay?
Not sure if you’ve been watching college football for the past 5 or so years, but WVU’s record in that time against the SEC is 4-1, including a win over the SEC champion UGA Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl. But whatever, I’ll let you keep living in your delusional little world.
As for your SEC football/BE basketball comparison. The SEC has had a great run, no doubt about it. But when people are voting on who gets to play in the national championship, it kind of skews your results. If basketball voted on who got to play in the championship rather than playing a full tournament, things might have turned out a little different.

The Big East is superior
to the Big 12, Big Ten, SEC, etc. in terms of depth, talent, speed, etc. You have a good team, but you haven’t played anyone.
by WVUColumbus on Mar 26, 2010 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Nothing Delusional?
You’re talking about football. Enough said there.
The SEC is dominant in football. Nobody said they weren’t. But even the great SEC teams lose to teams from less renowned football conferences. Oh, I don’t know, like say WVU from the Big East.
Mississippi State vs WVU? WVU by 20. EASILY. You pick the sport.
couple things
First – can’t believe I completely agree with Columbus on something.
Second – keep doubting and/or ignoring WVU…flying under the entire nations expectations is working out just fine for us
Thanks for stopping by.
The only matchup problem I really see is Wall. I think Mazz will do okay on him, but he has to stay out of foul trouble. I’m guessing Wells will get to bang around with Cousins, Jones will be on Patterson, and we’ll probably put Ebanks on Bledsoe? Or maybe Butler on Bledsoe and Ebanks on Wall?
UK is pretty talented, as I noticed when I watched them play last night. But I don’t think they can completely outclass us like they did Cornell. We are, however, going to have to win ugly by playing great defense and crashing hard on the boards and taking care of the ball on offense.
by Country Roads on Mar 26, 2010 9:49 AM EDT up reply actions
LMAO
Mississippi State? Have you even WATCHED Big East basketball?
And just because Mississippi State hung with Kentucky does NOT mean they are great. It may mean UK isn’t as great as everyone thinks they are.
“Bledsoe is quicker, Patterson is feeling personal” This is so laughable, it’s sad.
And like WVUIE97 said, keep doubting. UK might get a BIG surprise on Saturday.
Start Cam
I hope Huggins starts Cam and has him rough up Cousins. I think Cam could frustrate him enough and get him to throw a punch.

Really?
I must have missread this whole site..what about the overweight drug additcts that you guys assert are all over my home towns? Please…
"all the way"
Oh don't worry
they’re all over the southern part of our state as well….especially places like Logan and other locales. It’s just that there’s MORE in KY.
Kentucky being better than WVU in football is not intelligent discussion. That is grasping for nuts when blindfolded. Kentucky has as much history in college football as other non-factors such as Virginia, South Carolina, etc.
As for the game tomorrow, Kentucky is certainly talented and it will be interesting to see how they match up against the best defense in the country. It would not be considered an upset if WVU wins tomorrow. We are expecting a NC run this season, and Kentucky just happens to be the next team in the way. Best of luck.

There’s a difference when you come on somebody else’s turf and start throwing crap around. There’s also a difference between, as I said, good-natured banter and stupid insults that we’ve all heard before. I geuss the stupid insults are easy, and it actually takes some thought to come up with something creative and witty.

I didn't know we had thugs on our team
did any one else know that and I just missed it. Also I don’t think any of your playes could handle having Huddins and Treadmill of death as their coach
