The Shotgun/Throwdown: Regional Semis/Sweet Sixteen (3/25/10) Edition
Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's nationally recognized best place for sports links, information, sophomoric humor and daily distractions. We're being brought to you today by Landmark Vanilla Bean Brown Ale, in honor of our host site, Syracuse, NY.
It's almost time. If you count 9 1/2 hours as almost. My stomach's already in knots. Gotta keep the faith, keep believing. As you've probably noticed, the deeper Huggs and the guys go into this tournament, coverage increases exponentially. I've assembled as much as I could find inside. The tips, suggestions and requests I've received the last day or so are awesome. Thanks a bunch. Voting in our bracket ends at 8 EDT tonight and the Exotic Eight will go up sometime after the game tonight. And...here........we.........go...
Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miss Throwdown:
Today's Miss Throwdown is the daughter of short time Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay. WHO?!?! Which is probably why she's not on the above list (Actually, I know who he is, because I'm an Aerosmith fan). She's an American actress best known as Lyla on the TV version of Friday Night Lights. Here's the probable future Mrs. Derek Jeter, Minka Kelly. Click on the pic for main gallery with BONUS GALLERY HERE.

If I had to be any other person in the world, other than myself,
I would be Derek Jeter. Hall of Fame Yankee shortstop with…how many rings is it now? And his list of, uh, “accomplishments” is legendary.
I would love
to go out on a bender with either him or Clooney, just to enjoy the talent that they attract
I completely disagree
that we are playing w/ house money. We SHOULD have got to the Sweet 16 and we are no longer the program that plays w/ house money.
WVU has NEVER won a national championship in the 2 big sports……This is the year and anything less will be disappointing…..although acceptable. The WVU fan base is as hungry as any other for a NC and although a Final 4 appearance would be nice, WVU fans would be hungry for more.
I would say house money if Beilein was our coach.
You guys are absolutely insufferable.
Seriously, you asked for a reason not to be nervous and I tried to give you one. Guess I’ll never try that again.
You act like winning a national championship is an entitlement or something, when in fact it’s extremely difficult to do (evinced by the fact that WVU has NEVER done it), even when you have a great team. Look at Kansas this year, for example. I also disagree that “this is the year.” We have a great team, but we also have deficiencies. We’re probably not as good as Kansas or Kentucky or Syracuse this year (although we could beat them on any given night), and we’re certainly no 2009 UNC, which was as close to a lock as you can get. I think Huggs will have better teams than this one, so I’m not going to think it’s the end of the world if we lose tonight.
I said I’d be disappointed if we lost tonight, but as I said before, a successful season constitutes making the Sweet 16. We’ve accomplished that. So, IMO, we’re playing with house money. I don’t think you can ever take making the Elite 8 for granted. Sweet 16, sure. Especially as a 1 or 2 seed. But after that, you’re going to play against good teams who have just won 2 games against other good teams. Yuo might have an off night. You might have an injury. The other team might play out of their mind. There are just too many variables.
You guys need to freaking lighten up and enjoy WVU sports instead of expecting perfection everytime and getting all in a tizzy when things are inevitably not perfect.
We should applaud this because winning the Big East Tournament and making the Sweet 16 is, under almost any circumstance, a successful season. I applaud success.
