NCAA 1st Round Open Thread of Lost Productivity (Thursday)

Ncaa-final-four-2010-logo-300x225_medium

OK, admit it, your productivity has been on a downward spiral all morning, just counting down the minutes until the tip-off of March Madness.  We know -- it was a miracle we even put on pants this morning (or any morning, for that matter).  So while your watching the games at home, the office, or a bar, why not enjoy those same games with your friends here at The Smoking Musket?

My information

which is shoddy at best, claims that it is a mix of Greek and Latin and is translated “What (or such) Rocks” and probably referred to either the football teams vaunted defense (at the time, in the 1800’s) or the baseball team which was dubbed the “stonewalls”. A different theory states it refers to a literal stone wall on the campus.

So no one actually has any clue.

They do like to choke in bball though.

Cure The Funk...

I sure hope whatever malaise has afflicted Big East teams on Day 1 disappears tomorrow. 1-3 for the BEAST and even the one was sketchy. All year I have talked up the conference and today was a letdown. No doubt the worst loss was Georgetown losing to an Ohio team that went 7-9 in MAC play and won the conference tourney as a 9 seed. But I am bothered also by Marquette’s loss to Washington. Everyone has talked shit about the PAC 10 being weak all season…so I thought that would have been a win.

I hope we blow the doors off of Morgan State tomorrow. After all, we only need one team from the conference to do well, and that is OUR team!

Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.

but not as much as the guy in the Behind the Steel Curtain League thing who had Georgetown going to the Championship game, sure he didn’t have them winning. Needless to say it was the only game he had wrong up to that point, he was 11-1 and he his, now for all intents and purposes is out of it

Well, well, Georgetown lost to the Ohio Bobcats (shout-out to my goddaughter, Cis!). That really screws up my bracket, but it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving fan base. Now for today’s games: LET"S GO! MOUNTAINEERS!!
