There has been no strategy on the part of West Virginia University with regard to contact with any other conference. Let me re-emphasize: W.V.U. is committed to the Big East.

I don't know if this is PR or what but...

Eddie and the Big East need to be pro-active about possible expansion. The ACC mess caught everyone off guard but the Big Ten has publicly announce that they are going to expand.

The writing is on the wall and college sports is likely going to look vastly different in a few years.

Leave no doubt tonight! Leave no doubt tonight! No doubt! They shouldn't of played the Old Gold'n Blue.

Weren't you or C. West in the running for that job?

not sure how that whole hiring process works, but I’ll back you.

Agreed

There had better be a strategy or we’ll be left out in the cold again.

WVU

wasn’t left out in the cold after VPI, BC and UM left for the ACC. While the Big East was overall negatively affected, WVU (especially the football program) was enhanced.

All fans of WVU should hope (although it’s not likely as I agree there will be changes as well) that the Big East remains the way it is (especially for football).

Pastilong

seems to be one of those kind of guys that is committed/loyal w/o thought. This is a dangerous mindset, whether it’s sports or life, because this mindset will trump reason and thought. It is this sort of person who doesn’t adapt well to change and has a relatively weak ability to grow in all aspects of life.

He most likely had those comments because Stewart, yet again, established an unnecessary pre-emptive comment to a TV station in WV (hahahaha) regarding his thoughts on what he forecasts down the road. It’s ok to have your thoughts, but to generate pub by stating it to a negligible TV station is ludicrous.

in today's day and age of internet, twitter, etc

almost no media outlet is negligible, otherwise the ESPN blogger Brian Bennett wouldn’t have picked it up. Now, I’m not saying all media outlets are remotely equal….

why else

would something that has the clout of the NY Times make a mention of it in a BB story?

Of course Pastilong had to say that

You don’t want the conference tearing itself apart with the threat of a raid looming. Every one of the members needs to be saying they are commited to the BE.

And I think that the Big 10/11 expansion will get done because they can’t pass up all the dollars that would be generated from conference championship game. The big question becomes who will they invite in. Notre Dame would be the best case for the B10 based on geography and existing rivalries. And that might work out OK for the BE, as well.

Let's reverse your quote.
Pastilong seems to be one of those kind of guys that is committed/loyal w/o thought.

Let’s change that to: “WVUColumbus seems to be one of those kinds of guys that is negative/condescending/critical w/out thought.”

Why do you criticize Stew other than to criticize him in this instance? He is being proactive in talking about where he thinks WVU football fits in best. He wasn’t talking coach speak he was giving his honest opinion and if you can’t respect that, you are ludicrous.

It has been established that you will never say anything good about HCBS but it does really get old.

HCBS, did a great thing by being honest about what is obvious to everybody else in the nation.

Leave no doubt tonight! Leave no doubt tonight! No doubt! They shouldn't of played the Old Gold'n Blue.

Big 10

doesn’t hold the cards……Notre Dame does. As long as they have an NBC contract, which will be renewed until ‘15 or ’16 they won’t be in the Big Ten. I agree w/ you. ND is totally a Big Ten team in both of the major sports…….slow, prodding football and slow, prodding basketball……In summary, slow and prodding.

by WVUColumbus on Mar 13, 2010 2:09 PM EST reply actions

I don't think

ND Football will be slow and prodding much longer, unfortunately

Looks like the Athletic Department made HCBS take back his comments.

I’m a BIG EAST coach at heart and want to make it clear that I believe the BIG EAST is the best conference for our program. It is unwarranted for our fans or others to consider my comments an indication of anything more than a coach thinking out loud.

Of course we want the Big East to stay together, but it doesn’t look like we have much choice in the matter. Everyone needs to take off the blinders and either stop the raid or evaluate what happens if the Big East does get raided.

Leave no doubt tonight! Leave no doubt tonight! No doubt! They shouldn't of played the Old Gold'n Blue.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J.
