"You have the pain of discipline, or you have the pain of disappointment. You can't just be good on game day. You get good on gameday by working hard on the practice field. It is my job to let our players know what our level of expectation is. I want each of our kids to be responsible for his own self-determination, but what you have to remember is that you have to define things. You tell a player he has to play with focus, with intensity. He might not know what you mean. You have to let him know what you mean, what his level of expectation is. "

Nick Saban, paraphrased from an interview he gave today on XM's College Football Playbook with Jack Arute and Mike Leach. The interview was so intriguing, I pulled over on the side of the road to jot notes. This is the kind of approach all great coaches have. This is the approach I want to see us have. It is sorely evident that it has been lacking this season.
