2010 Pick'em Gauntlet: WVU vs. Cincinnati
Do you ever think back to the days where WVU had a chance to win the Big East Championship? Oh how I long for those simpler times. The days where a gallon of gas was only $2.68, a gallon of milk was $3.55 and I drank bourbon for fun, not to drown my sorrows.
The good'ole days, of two weeks ago, were a distant memory until UConn beat Pitt last night. Now we are technically back in the hunt for the Big East crown and I'm excited again.
The drama within the Big East is nothing compared to the drama we have in the 2010 Pick'em Gauntlet. The leader-board is getting crowded with our new contributor joining the fray. Let's get to the picks...
- Ohio State (-18) vs. Penn State
- Virginia Tech (-3.5) @ North Carolina
- Alabama (-13) vs. Mississippi State
- Florida (-6.5) vs. South Carolina
- Auburn (-7.5) vs. Georgia
- West Virginia (-5) vs. Cincinnati
We have a tie at the top...
5th Year Senior (4 wins, 26 overall)
- State Penn (+18) @ Ohio State
- North Carolina (+3.5) vs. Virginia Tech
- Alabama (-13) vs. Mississippi State
- South Carolina (+6.5) @ Florida
- Auburn (-7.5) vs. Georgia
- West Virginia (-5) vs. Cincinnati
JP Fanshawe (3, 26) (Ed. Note: I wish I had fancy rationale like Mr. Fanshawe, but I just throw shoes in the air to determine my picks. If it lands on the sole, I got with the favorite. If it lands on the laces, I go with the underdog.)
- Ohio State (-18) vs. Penn State - by the numbers, PSU won't score, and the Lions have covered three straight, so go against 'em.
- North Carolina (+3.5) vs. Virginia Tech - UNC is 50 points better in schedule strength, and VT may let down after essentially sewing up their division last Thursday.
- Alabama (-13) vs. Mississippi State - the Bulldogs just don't throw the ball well enough. Alabama's D line will control the game.
- South Carolina (+6.5) @ Forlida - SCar is an underdog with a 2.5 yard advantage in Yards Per Attempt.
- Georgia (+7.5) @ Auburn - Not a numbers pick. I just think the Newton flack might catch up with the Tigers, who have also covered three straight.
- West Virginia (-5) vs. Cincinnati - relevant to Country Road's post about the weakness of offenses we've faced, I just don't know.
Charley West (4, 25)
- Ohio State (-18) vs. Penn State
- Virginia Tech (-3.5) @ North Carolina
- Mississippi State (+13) @ Alabama
- South Carolina (+6.5) @ Forlida
- Georgia (+7.5) @ Auburn
- Cincinnati (+5) @ WVU
WVUIE97 (3, 22)
- Ohio State (-18) vs. Penn State
- North Carolina (+3.5) vs. Virginia Tech
- Alabama (-13) vs. Mississippi State
- South Carolina (+6.5) @ Florida
- Auburn (-7.5) vs. Georgia
- West Virginia (-5) vs. Cincinnati
Country Roads (1 (ouch), 18 (yikes))
- Penn State (+18) @ Ohio State
- Virginia Tech (-3.5) @ North Carolina
- Mississippi State (+13) @ Alabama
- Florida (-6.5) vs. South Carolina
- Auburn (-7.5) vs. Georgia
- West Virginia (-5) vs. Cincinnati
Don't forget to submit your picks below. If you beat us you may get a new car (if you buy it on your own) or you will get the feeling of accomplishment of beating some mediocre bloggers in a pick'em contest.

Gatortime
Ohio State over PSU
Virginia Tech over UNC
Alabama over any Mississippi team
Florida over South Carolina
Auburn over Georgia (in a 42-35 shootout)
West Virginia over Cincinnati (for what passes for a shootout in the Big East these days, 24-17)

also, how in the world
has WVU lost three games, when not one opponent has scored 22 or more points against them this year??

Hey Fifth...
notice you are ahead of me! The shoe thing works, man….
As good as I have been in the pros this year, I have been sub .500 in college games.
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.
Ahead....
…in terms of winning weeks, anyway…
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.
Let mthrow in my 2 cents
Ohio State (-18) vs. Penn State – Paterno doesn’t get 401 ths week
Virginia Tech (-3.5) @ North Carolina -I hate picking Tech. I hope am wrong.
Mississippi State(+13) @ Alabama – MSU finds a way to keep it close.
South Carolina (+6.5) @ Florida – Spurrier wins, not just covers.
Auburn (-7.5) vs. Georgia – Georgia is just a mess. Auburn wins with or without Newton.
West Virginia (-5) vs. Cincinnati – WVU wins either by 2 or by 20. I am going with 20 on this.

continuing the tradition
of just knowing enough to lose badly:
Ohio State (-18) vs. Penn State
Virginia Tech (-3.5) @ North Carolina
Alabama (-13) vs. Mississippi State (i think they’ll lose, just not this badly.)
Florida (-6.5) vs. South Carolina
Auburn (-7.5) vs. Georgia
West Virginia (-5) vs. Cincinnati
I hope we crush them, but if we get up by three points by the end of the first quarter, I fear we’ll try to burn clock for three quarters rather than go for “style points”.
(sorry so bitter, it took me over a week to come back to this blog after the last loss.)
My picks for the week
Ohio State
Virginia Tech
Alabama
Florida
Auburn
WVU
