Everyone may be upset with how the team and coaching staff have done lately, but with UConn's win over Pitt, there is still a sliver of hope. Now, I'm no expert, so please explain to me where I am going wrong, but:
(continued after the jump)
For West Virginia to win the Big East, the following needs to happen:
1. WVU must win out, 4-0. It can happen.
2. Syracuse must have at minimum 2 losses in the Big East. - Thanks Louisville.
3. Pitt must have at least one loss prior to playing WVU. - THAT JUST HAPPENED.
4. UConn needs to lose another game in conference.
So, #2, and #3 have occurred. If my fuzzy math is right, and WVU wins out, and UConn gets a loss, that puts WVU, Syracuse (if they win out) and PItt (if they win out, except for to WVU) in a 3 way tie with 2 conference losses. That puts us in a mini conference scenario.
First up is the round robin. In this scenario, Syracuse lost to Pitt, who lost to WVU, who lost to Syracuse. That solves nothing.
Then I believe it goes to standings, and that is where the internet is failing me right now. Does anyone know if I'm making this up, or if I actually remember something from a couple of years ago. And the Big East website, I don't find it as easy to maneuver in as it used to be. But I don't like change, so I am a little bias.
Please feel free to comment. I just felt that I needed to post something after Pitt lost. Hooray!
