The Shotgun/Throwdown: Tuesday (1/5/10) Edition

Bottle-inheat-label_medium

Welcome, By-Godders, to the Shotgun/Throwdown, WVU's best place for sports links, information and daily distractions.  Today we're being brought to you by Flying Dog In Heat Wheat Ale (as suggested by Josh).

WVU has lost another one of it's own.  Former football coach Gene Corum has passed.  I'm too young to really know his impact, but he was a Mountaineer, and that's enough for me to miss him.  Basketball news is finally starting to dominate and even some good news from the women's team.  Tips, suggestions and requests help make this thing go.  Let's get going...

Today

With Jimbo Fisher being named the coach at Florida State today, that makes three off the biggest programs in the country (Florida State, Michigan and Alabama) having a head coach that grew up 40 minutes from the campus of West Virginia University.

Two immediate thoughts come to mind:

1. That is a pretty amazing stat considering there are about 200,000 people that live in the North Central part of West Virginia.

2. None of them will be coaching WVU this upcoming fall, while the Mountaineers have a total buffoon on the sidelines. That makes Stiles very sad.

3. That 2 of the 3 (Rich Rod and Jimbo) could be coaching here is it weren’t for Pastilong/Garrison/Machin.

Do you honestly think Jimbo

would have stayed and not gone back to FSU when Bowden finally left? Not a chance.

Not familiar with her work

But I might be, if she was on her hands and knees facing away from the camera…..
