Maybe 2011 Is The Year
This was posted by McCutchenIsTheTruth in reply to another post I wrote, and I thought maybe more people would see it if reposted it separately. He makes an interesting point.
"...Oh, and for optimism, if you look at the 5 talented wide receivers that remain interested in WV. (Coxson, Wright, McCartney, Ambles, and Boone) plus the chance to land some other guys Sims, Grimes etc. I’m looking forward to two years from now.
Don’t get me wrong, I think we can be very successful next year.. but two years from now I’ll list who we may have around, and with experience. The following list isn’t comprehensive, and obviously injuries, suspensions, drop offs in play, early departures are possible BUT
(Remember the 2011 season)
Sands – Sr.
Tandy – Sr. (I think he can be a solid corner by then)
Starks – Sr. (Is that right? according to ESPN rosters)
Josh Jenkins – Sr.
Mark Rodgers – Sr.
Urban – Sr.
Julian Miller – Sr.
Heastie – Jr. (So. if he was redshirted)
Tavon Austin – Jr.
Ryan Clarke – Jr.
Geno Smith – Jr.
Bailey – Jr. (So. if he was redshirted)
Latwan Anderson – So.
Brunetti – So.
Long – So.
Picket – So.
Milines – So.
Spain – So.
Jeremy Johnson – So.
Throw in… say Ambles and McCartney as Sophomores along with Irvin and Finau (if both come), and you’ve got, by my count
A very good QB (whoever it is) with a capable backup with at least one year of exp.
A talented and deep receiving core, the best we’ve seen in years
A solid running game with a 1-2 punch (Clarke and Austin)
A very talented defensive line (at least the starters)
A promising offensive line with a stud or two
A (potentially) very good looking secondary
IF guys develop in the offensive line, we get an impact LB or two, and depth develops in the DL and Secondary, and I see no reason why we aren’t a legit national title contender again in 2011.
Plus, I couldn’t and therefore didn’t account for any impact freshman that sign in the next class and may have an impact in 2011."

I am sure I will be shouted down for saying this BUT...
If Geno can be solid and not turn the ball over. We could win one next year. Fingers crossed.
I say 2010 is as much our year as 2011.
Leave no doubt tonight! Leave no doubt tonight! No doubt! They shouldn't of played the Old Gold'n Blue.

Oh I agree
We have the talent.. but with HCBS trying to change us to an I-formation offense with more balance, we may still stumble.
Also in 2011 we should be really good in basketball again.. maybe even better than this year.
Our roster and year (assuming no one other than Ebanks leaves earlier, which is a big assumption)
Truck Bryant – Sr.
Kevin Jones – Sr.
Dan Jennings – Jr.
Deniz Kilicli – Jr. (He seems the most likely candidate (other than maybe K. Jones) to leave early, but in truth the 2011 season will be more like his So. season rather than his Jr. season)
Dalton Pepper – Jr.
Noah Cottrill – So.
David Nyarsuk – So.
and by my count 5 scholarships to pass out next year.

national title contender....maybe
Seeing the list of talent (and potential talent) we’ll have in 2011, we should definitely be a title contender. However, we had the offensive weapons this season to make it to a BCS bowl game but the coaching staff blew it a few times, getting WAYYYYYY too conservative. If those weapons are unleashed, and our D is solid, then hell yeah we can contend. If the play-calling doesn’t utilize the men we have I see another 9-3 season. But I remain optimistic that HCBS and Mullen will one day see the light and turn the aggression on.
all of the talent/speed in the world
won’t get you anywhere if:
on O: the QB is running for his life every time he drops back to pass
on D: no pressure on the QB
