The Smoking Musket Pick 'Em Gauntlet: Week 1
5th Year Senior is mad that they made fun of his favorite movie. He might try and deny it, but the Kirsten Dunst poster on his wall says otherwise.
As in years past, we'll be running a weekly picks contest on the site. Nothing too flashy, just a few bloggers battling to the bitter death trying to win a season long contest that has rhyme, reason, or prize. And we'll be picking against the spread, because any nancy can take USC to beat San Jose State, but can you lay the 35 points? That takes balls....but we've decided to let 5YS participate anyway.
Here we go:
Charley West (0-0 last week, 0-0 season)
- Syracuse +7 vs. Minnesota
- Alabama -6.5 vs. Virginia Tech (in Atlanta)
- Cincinnati +6 @ Rutgers
- UConn -3.5 @ Ohio
- Western Michigan +13 @ Michigan
Note: Usually, we'll pick the WVU game against the spread. Since there's no spread against Liberty, we'll skip this week. Just know that I'm almost 100% sure we all think WVU is going to win.
5th Year Senior (0-0 last week, 0-0 season)
- South Carolina +3.5 @ NC State
- Oregon +3 @ Boise St.
- Oklahoma St. -5 vs. Georgia
- Ole Miss -16 @ Memphis
- Cincinnati +5 @ Rutgers
The 25314 (0-0 last week, 0-0 season)
- Baylor +2.5 @ Wake Forest
- Georgia +5 @ OKlahoma St.
- Notre Dame -14.5 vs. Nevada
- UConn -3.5 @ Ohio
- Virginia Tech +6.5 vs. Alabama (in Atlanta)
Country Roads (0-0 last week, 0-0 season)
- Rutgers -6 vs. Cincinnati
- Minnesota -7 @ Syracuse
- UConn -3.5 @ Ohio
- NC State -3.5 vs. South Carolina
- Alabama -6.5 vs Virginia Tech (in Atlanta)
WVUIE97 (0-0 last week, 0-0 season)
- Oregon +3 @ Boise St.
- Western Michigan +13 @ Michigan
- Georgia +4.5 @ Oklahoma St.
- Alabama -6.5 vs. Virginia Tech (in Atlanta)
- Cincinnati +5 @ Rutgers

Wow
Charley, I put my picks in at 1030 this morning in our pool and they look very similar to yours. Looks like I need to beat your post weekly or I’ll be accused of shenaningans. We’re either chickens or feathers this week.
Damn those small schools
Charley and I have decided that we hate the small schools. There is no way that Boise State could compete with a regular Pac-10 schedule.
This is the first ranked team they have ever played at home.Enough about their home win streak being something special. Shut up
