Week 2 Blogpoll (The Ballot of The Smoking Musket)
We're a week into the season and things are only just a little more neatly sorted.
Of course, not a week goes by after I call Oklahoma State "for real" that they go out and lose to an unranked Houston at home. Ouch. Also, Michigan State did its best Michigan impression from last year and stunk up the joint against the MAC. Both fell out of my poll. Update: Nothing to see here, please move along. Oregon State's loss wasn't quite as bad, but still, c'mon -- you have to do better than that. Hope you heeded my warning.
Here's the full ballot, with a few more comments after the jump...

- USC gets the jump to #1 after the impressive win on the road against Ohio State. I hate to feel like I am punishing Alabama by moving them to #3, but if they're truly national championship good, they have plenty of time (and chances to prove their worth) over the course of the season. At the end of the day, I just don't think they're better than Florida.
- Lots of new teams in the top 25, headed by Cincinnati at #13. They made Rutgers look like a ragdoll on the road, which is impressive, eve, though it was Rutgers. Michigan gets a program-type win at home against Notre Dame, lending a lot of legitimacy to what Rodriguez is doing up there. There will be still be bumps, but Forcier looks damn good. Miami (FL) also makes a nice splash after beating FSU in Tallahassee.
- Missouri needed every second to beat Bowling Green at home, and while the Falcons are a good squad, I expect better of the #17 ranked team. That's why they find themselves at #25 this week.
- I think they're being highly overrated, but Auburn would most likely be my #26 ranked team. If they beat the Mountaineers on Saturday, they'll certainly jump into the rankings. Too bad that won't happen.
So, there are my rankings. Thoughts? Comments? Complaints? Proposals of marriage (not from you, 5YS)?

i would not qualify au’s last two wins as solid opponents. but at the same time wvu’s previous two have not been stellar either, ecu eaked out a win in thier first game of the season, and liberty is liberty. this game wil be looked at by both squads as a statement game and it should be a doosey.
seriously how good do the eer’s need to be to get ranked again? yes we lost PW. uga lost stafford, moreno, and a few others and started the season 14th…are you serious… and barely beat the gamecocks…oi will the SEC love ever end?

On Auburn
They were just so, so bad last year. Are they better this year? Obviously. But I think, once they face some stiffer competition, the growing pains of a first year regime will start to show. You saw that with Tennessee this past weekend.
WVU is a year ahead in our process, and I think that’s enough to get the W on Saturday.

"The Ballot of the Smoking Musket"
Sounds like an old civil war marching tune. (Yes, I know that’s a ballad, but if you read it aloud, it sounds similar.)
not so fast, my friend
USC is NOT that good.
While this is a great and thorough article about the many failings of “Tressel Ball”, it also exposes the Trojans as a team that isn’t quite as good as the pundits seem to believe:
usc sucks
it’s like no one wanted to believe me when i brought up all the reasons USC has been overrated. now, after that loss to washington, they’re ranked pretty much where they belong.
sorry you guys didn’t pull it out against auburn, this bama fan was pulling for you.
