The Unofficially Official ECU Prediction Post
As you noticed in our Pick 'Em Gauntlet post from yesterday, all of this site's authors have us covering the 6.5 points. Sure, we got blown out last year, but ECU is a team that we are 17-3 against all-time, including going undefeated at home. This is a game we should win, and obviously a game we must absolutely win.
But the more important question is: what do you think? Give me your idea on how this game will play out, including score, key plays, etc. Even if you think we'll (gasp!) lose, which isn't happening, but whatever. Go to work.

One easy prediction:
This has to the best visit list in the history of Mountaineer football.

I'm already on record, but
here’s Mandel’s take:
East Carolina 19 West Virginia 16
Can the Pirates knock off the Mountaineers for a second straight year? It’s unlikely they’ll hold West Virginia to three points again, but ECU’s defense has proven more than capable of slowing down potent opponents (it held powerful Tulsa to 24 points in last year’s C-USA championship game). Watch out for an encore.
WV 35 - ECU 10
We roll. Time to get it moving. If not, then it will be a long season.

ECU 13 WVU 7
ECU boasts a “nice” QB w/ experience and a solid stable of RBs to go along w/ perhaps the best defensive line in Conference USA. WVU’s defensive line can’t put pressure on the QB and our offensive line will have trouble all day protecting our QB, Jarrett Brown. I look for us to come out looking unsure and hesitant and to play w/o a definitive purpose in mind, a product of confused kids playing without adequate coaching usually reserved for Division I head coaches.
I sure as hell hope I’m wrong, but I feel ECU will be prepared by Skip Holtz and we won’t!
Our talent level compared to ECU is embarassingly disproportionate……I’m afraid the coaching levels between the 2 HCs is as well.
You crack me up!
but you could actually have something there. i’m predicting just the opposite. 13-7 WVU

Does every single
poster really feel the obligation to comment on every single post of mine, whether negative or indifferent? It’s my prediction…..not here to make your day bright and full of sunshine…..
Another thing, is this Saturday’s game the first game that won’t be televised since Rod left?
there was at least one last year
and a couple RR’s last year as well (Miss St. for sure comes to mind)
I think I saw where the last game with no TV of any type whatsoever was Eastern Washington in 2006. Not sure about before that. It is kind of baffling how the Liberty game was televised but ECU is not. You would think that would be a fairly attractive game to somebody, at least in the mid-atlantic region.

WVU 33 ECU 13
Rainbows, sunshines and babies. Just wanted to make you all smile and have a better day.
Actually, I should probably take babies off that list. Lord knows one of those would ruin my day. One day I’m having one night stands with attractive undergrads. The next, I have herpies and am changing poopy diapers. I just pulled a Columbus and ruined my own day.

WVU 27 ECU 14
I’m predicting that we will look…. ah hell I won’t be able to see how we look since the freaking game isn’t on TV, even gameplan??? I mean last week I watched Idaho State play your Mom on gameplan.
But we’ll perform better, some of the questions will be answered, but kickoff covereage will continue to be an issue.
Finally my prediction of stating the obvious…WVUColumbus will say something ignorant along the lines that his inside information says that since we only won by 13 and not 14 that the boosters are really ticked and plan to run HCBS out of town.
Prediction
Are you a booster? Do you have regular contact w/ a “upper middle class booster” who happens to personally know a Top 10 WVU athletic/academic donor? I have a contact….get over it….geesh.
All I’m saying, WVU-SC, is that you’d be surprised at some of the high level donors who ARE NOT happy w/ the overall direction of the WVU football program. Remember, these are individuals who have succeeded in life and don’t really understand and tolerate mediocrity. True, to many of you on this board mediocrity is 7-5 or 6-6. To many of these top tier donors/boosters, mediocrity equals 9-3 and 8-4, especially (in their eyes) in a watered down Big East conference.
Just because many WVU fans’ standards are relatively low doesn’t equate to those that contribute many, many, many more dollars than yours truly.
Granted, It Is Based On Just One Game...
ECU is 74th in Scoring Defense, and 98th in Offensive Passing Efficiency (a hidden stat that predicts winners with uncommon accuracy…we are 39th)…those numbers come from a game against a top-flight FBS opponent….but I don’t think they bode well for the Pirates.
I hope it is pretty, but I expect us to outscore this team.
WVU 31-13.
98th in Offensive Passing efficiency
that’s the best news I’ve heard all week!

WVU wins in a mild-rout
A lot of college football is mental. These kids aren’t professionals, and it takes more than just Xs and Os to get a team to win games.
That’s why, almost regardless of the talent on the field tomorrow, I believe WVU takes it to ECU. This team, and you can hear from every single interview, has been looking forward to this game for a full year. It’s extremely easy to overlook a FCS school when you have a game circled on your calendar the very next week. I think we saw a very watered down version of the Mountaineers last week — maybe not in play-calling so much as effort, especially defensive effort.
This week should be very different. We have a very good defense, tons of speed on offense, and a whole lot of revenge on the mind. I am hesitant to pick an exact score, but I think we win 17+.

Here's hoping you're right
I’m hoping, based on your first sentence, that the crowd and the memory of last year makes our defense hit like they’re capable of, and takes it to the Pirates.
I’m also hoping that if we have the ball and more than 30 seconds, that HCBS doesn’t fucking take a knee. I’m still torqued off about that.

Go Mountaineers!!!!
I think we’ll win in the 31-10 range.
Did you all see Colorado get bushwhacked by Toledo!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Colorado’s defense looked terrible!!
Sucks to be Dan Hawkins
Leaves cushy job in Boise for Big 12 in Boulder, and just like that……….Mr. Irrelevant…he’ll be fired at end of season.
Is the game on Locally?
I live down south, and I’m pissed that the game isn’t even on gameplan, but I was wondering if it is on in West Virginia?
TYLER BITANCOURT
is the star today, O-Line struggles, Defense and Specials teams hold it together, still work to be done………WVU 13-10
Hey, It Is Free This Year!
All you have to do is sign up at ESPN 360.com. I am sort of pissed since I can stream many more games through our TV using it, but I have already dropped the dough for the Gameplan package…one thing is for sure, the feed on ESPN360 can’t be any worse than the Gameplan!
Watched some Australian Rules Football on it this morning to see what the quality was like. Not bad. And how about those Collingwood Magpies!
ESPN 360
is a service provided to offer games via internet provider. However, not all internet providers offer 360. For instance, I have Time Warner in Columbus and they are not a participating provider for ESPN 360. (ie. I’m not able to watch game online)
WVU TV Schedule
I just realized that on msnsportsnet.com, UCONN, Louisville and Syracuse are no longer the only games w/ TBA gametimes. The remainder of the schedule (after those games) is now TBA. This is an interesting development that has been kept hushhush by the school. I know for a fact that ALL of the remaining games (besides those 3) had a specific gametime…..It will be interesting if this means that those games may be dropped from the ESPN family of channels and placed on either gameplan or ESPN 360.
Does anybody have info. on this?
ESPN family of channels
meaning ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU
I can't get it here
Damn Time Warner Cable in my area desn’t carry 360- any ideas on how to get it without switching cable companies?
You cannot get it....
unless you switch providers (or if Time Warner decides to be a provider of the service)…..Based on Time Warner past history of generally being a joke of a cable provider, I’m not holding breath

forgot my prediction
we win, 23-21, based on three more field goals (3 made out of four), and a critical fumble on their part.
In JT Thomas we trust. Go Mountaineers!
