Around SBN: Off Tackle Empire interviews Rich Rodriguez

Schlabach, you ignorant slut...

Mr. Schlabach and friends have further broken down their new 40 team division into conferences and we're in the Knute Rockne Conference with BC, VT, PSU, Iowa, Michigan, Mich St, ND, OSU, and Wisc.  He added this little jewel:

"The Knute Rockne Conference might have been more aptly named for Gerry Faust. Four of the league's coaches are off to rough starts at their respective schools: Notre Dame's Charlie Weis, Michigan's Rodriguez, Wisconsin's Bret Bielema and West Virginia's Bill Stewart."

I know some (and us regulars can predict who "some" are on this blog, ahem, I digress) feel we disappointed or underachieved to varying degrees based on your own point of views, but to lump a 9-4 bowl winning season with those guys last year?  I don't care if you're playing in the Pure Prairie League and go to the Toilet Bowl...Stew doesn't deserve to be lumped in with those guys last year.

I agree, but...

The Bret Bielema era at Wisconsin could be a template for things going wrong at WVU. I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but it’s possible. Bielema took over, won 12 games with Barry Alvarez’s players, then won 9 games with less of Alvarez’s players, and then last year won 7. A general decay. I think that’s what most of the anti-Stew crowd is expecting in Morgantown.

Oh, and one other thing...

If you write a FanPost/Shot and come up with a headline (reference) like this, it’s impossible not to make the front page. Well done sir, well done.

Considering

Stew is actually recruiting better players than RichRod did (White and Slaton aside, we’re talking overall talent level here), a decay of talent does not seem likely. A decay in coaching, possibly, but that is more easily fixed than a decay in talent. But to lump Stew in with Rod and Weis is ridiculous. On the other hand, the fact that a 9-4 year is a disappointment may be a sign that we have arrived as a program.

And...

please don’t take this post to mean that going 9-4 is a new accepted norm, at least for me. Disappointing, somewhat…Bad (especially considering a coaching transition), hell no.
