Chris Beatty Can Flat-Out Recruit, Ya Heard?

Yahoo! sports is reporting that Ohio RB and Rivals 4-star Braylon Heard verballed to WVU last night. Chalk another one up to the magician that is Chris Beatty:
"I really hit it off with coach Beatty (running backs coach Chris Beatty and the rest of the coaches," he said. "The people at West Virginia were great. I liked coach Beatty a lot and feel I can learn from him. I even ran into a super fan who knew everything about the program and knew who I was. The fan support there is great.
Buckle your seatbelt before you watch the video, because Heard has the kind of wheels and moves to go with them that will inevitably make you lose your jock regardless of which team you may be playing---or rooting---for. A number of observers have likened Heard to Steve Slaton, and I can't say that the comparisons are that far off base. If you look at the video, he seems comfortable running the zone read out of the shotgun. He picks his holes quickly and hits them hard, often breezing by unsuspecting linebackers and safeties. When the play breaks down, he has good cutback ability to make something out of nothing. In addition to Slaton, Heard compares himself to Reggie Bush. While he may have to find another number when he eventually dons the old gold and blue, those comparisons aren't exactly absurd either, especialaly when he cuts back against the grain to turn a short gain into a long TD. This kid can play. He also plays corner in high school, but I'm pretty sure Maryland is the only school recruiting him at corner.
Also, Ohio DB Latwan Anderson recently named WVU as his favorite, according to ESPN.com. Anderson, like Heard, is being heavily recruited and would be a great addition to an already impressive class.

There is a logical reason for my recent absence.
I am the new secret weapon in WVU’s recruiting arsenal.

Beatty or Mullen?
I know Beatty was mentioned by Heard in the rivals article, but Beatty is Heards position coach. I would think Mullen recruited Heard or Dunlap since their region is Western PA and Ohio. Where as Beatty, of course, has the VA/tidewater region. I’m curious to find out, so if anyone knows I would appreciate the answer.
He was recruited by Mullen, who has a good relationship with the head coach at Mooney. But Heard apparently hit it off well with Beatty, who, as you pointed out, is his position coach. I’m sure Mullen did a fine job, but from reading the articles it seems like Beatty is the one who sealed the deal when he got to spend some time with Heard at camp this summer.

I see the value in Mullen
He’s who QBs with NFL hopes want to play for. And he can develop them into what the NFL wants. Look at Pat White…especially in the Car Care Bowl. He threw the lights out in that game. Now I’m not saying Pat White wasn’t going to the NFL anyway as a QB…but it definitely didn’t hurt his stock.
With that said…I still have serious issues with his play calling. I’m in favor of a more democratic approach when it comes to play-calling as long as egos don’t clash during a game, which may be an inevitability.
In the words of Will Muschamp...
Boom motherfucker fuckin yea!
On Heard...thoughts from Scout...Mullen was key!!!
"Coach Mullen and I talked several times. We had the chance to talk about academics, and about what their plans were for him on the field too. At some schools, you get there and you are on your own .I wanted to be sure the support staff was in place at West Virginia, and in the end I felt very comfortable and confident with what Coach Mullen had to say."
Just want to give credit where credit is deserved, GREAT JOB MULLEN!!!
Just to Clarify
Those were Heard’s coach’s comments.
